@lichtjaeger

How much would it be to send to the US?

Packaging 1,50€ + shipping 8,90€. In sum 10,40€/11,57$US. And I also need to make a customs declaration.

@all

Is there someone from North America who can help out?

@lichtjaeger

Quick question - which silocone do you actually use? If I go to link from Stefan's video, it takes me to Amazon with search page saying to refine my search. Would it be possible if you write more accurate name of the product or post link?

It's a high-temperature silicon from the german supplier Troll Factory.

@lichtjaeger

Bless your heart.

Trollfactory ... that may explain why it was offering me all sorts of toy trolls as suggestions on Amazon 😆

FWIW I made my own regular Mk3S socks out of Permetex high temperature copper silicone. It seems to stay a lot more pliable and doesn't go hard and crumbly like the official E3d socks I stopped using. Since it is an air-cure in a closed mold you need to stir in a drop of glycerin to get a good cure, else it will not set.

Can I add non constructive whining to this thread? That silicone from Troll Factory costs ~23 Eur, with shipping 19 Eur. Amazon has it for ~28 Eur, with shipping 12 Eur (for 0.5 kg package). That's kind of a lot for shipping relative to package itself, to neighboring country even.

What's the shelf life of those silicone components? Bigger packaging has better cost in terms of shipping, but I am not sure I will use it all on my own. Unless I make cr*p ton of socks and sell them, could it be usable to make molds for my other projects (resin casting)? Material seems a bit stiff for that.

@crawlerin

I bought some and it's already come in quite handy besides making a few silicone socks. Also, I don't see why it can't be used for mold making, it's not extremely stiff. By the way, if you need a sock I can send you one. Material costs only come out to like 0.33EUR er sock so I would just as for the price of shipping. I am also in a neighboring country to Germany.

Yes, I still have more than enough silicone left. Maybe we can combine it with @rob-g2s request. (Are other interested parties from the USA here?) If I combine international shipping in one parcel and one of you use national shipping to share them, all of you might save on shipping costs.

Normally, I would handle the details over PM, but you need at least 5 posts in the forum to reply to a PM. You can spam some here if you need to.

@lichtjaeger

Just wanted to say thanks again for this. I finally bought some high-temp two pack silicone and made one last weekend. The mould worked flawlessly, I did not need any release agent and my finished sock is a perfect fit on my Mini.

Anyone who is not sure - it's not expensive to do and it is very easy to complete. This sock fits perfectly unlike the standard v6 one. I used 5ml total of the 500ml of silicone I bought so I have plenty for spares 🙂

I want to thank you as well. I ordered silicone from Trollfactory - curse them shipping costs, I ordered 1 kg since 500 g is terrible price/shipping ratio; made 2 molds one at 0.200 other at 0.150 to try, and tried to cast it. One came out great, the other not so much - rubber has 10 minutes working time, I waited too long for bubbles to raise after stirring, and by the time I injected it into second mold it was too thick to fully spread at the top. Oh and 20 grams is waaaay too much for these mini socks. Learning experience.

@lichtjaeger

Here also a big thanks. Bought the 2 * 500g set and filled both a E3D v6 and a Prusa Mini mold. Both were succesful. Maybe not as bubble free as could be, but it were the first silicone castings I ever tried.

Greetings,

Fred Jan
