Replacing the bowden tube? Mine just broke.

Has anyone tried any of the aftermarket tubing like Capricorn?

My Bowden tube just broke today and I'm tempted to try some of the other stuff.

Regardless I want to get this fixed but thought it might be an opportunity to use some better tubing.

Without any instructions that I can find anywhere, I assume I need to use a heat gun. I have sent an email to Prusa asking for help.

I also wonder if it's possible to use a push in fitting as an alternative.

The compression fittings are one time use, but they can be bought widely. I think Prusa use a special tool to crimp them on the tube, but in theory the action of tightening the fitting should be enough to crimp it onto the tube.

Push fits are an option, but the thread is different. There are some printed adapter designs on Prusaprints I think.

@bobcousins

Thanks for the info. I really hope a third party comes out with some compatible push-fit options as that would be nice. I ordered three tubes from Prusa but not really excited about the wait. I can't print the adapter so I don't have a lot of options.

Oh geez. I just found them after looking again. I looked but apparently not well enough. I'll try this. Thanks!

Okay, I have it printing now with the spare. I shortened the tube slightly so will probably still use one of the new ones I ordered. Is there a place to buy these compression fittings in the US that is somewhat cheap? Still interested in trying a different tubing. I might also try that adapter solution.

I purchased them so we'll see how good they are. Thanks for the pointer.

Would something like this work? (the correct size, of course)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BSC88YK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YWWqFbVK98M61

I picked up something similar for one of my other bowden printers. Push fittings are the WORST, especially after lots milage with of retraction. I ended up printing a temporary solution for my other printer and it worked so well, I never put the new compression fitting I bought, on it. Looking at the Mini fittings, it looks like this option above might work.

The actually item I bought is no longer for sale on Amazon, but the product description read "Maslin Male BSP Hardline Tube Pipe Connector Compression Fitting"

Here are some other fitting I ordered, that I never used and imagine could work on the Mini

@kevinbakon

Interesting. I ordered the other ferrules and they seem exact.

I've not used push fittings so it's good to know why Prusa avoided them.
