@robee

What process did you use to check the squareness of the X-Z to the Y? Did you have to shim?

I didn't do that step, I just assumed it was! I hadn't had any problems with printing lots of different size models, so I just assumed it was fine.

A level bed is fairly important. In its stock condition my bed was over 1.2mm out from lowest to highest and I couldn't get a single print to complete successfully, I assume the mesh bed leveling can only cope with so much.

After doing this mod I have had way more success.

@robee

I just posted the initial version of the revised instruction on Github here: https://github.com/bbbenji/PMSBLM

Please consider the repo WIP, I need to go through it again, double-check everything and refine it. PR's welcome.

Again, thanks for the pictures!

@kevman

It fixes problems like the picture below. It's a 1 layer 180x180 print, which is the full print area of the Mini. As you can see, part of the sheet is quite consistent, other parts show the first layer height to be too low or too high.

It's square, the forum squished the image vertically.

Thank you for this! Now that I have my mosquito running I might have to do this next!

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod

well this looks to be the solution I've been looking for... after getting my mini and trying to replace the door on the extruder with a motion indicator and using some brute force to remove the screw my first layers have been problematic. at the least i know what to check now, at the worst, i can do the mod and fix it for sure. 😀

now about that xz square to the y bed part...

I have ordered the parts from China (shipment via slow boat, so it will take a while) I'll update when parts have arrived and installed 😀

I wrote my own converter to get the relative values from G29. You can find that here: https://bbbenji.github.io/PMSBLM/

No more copying, pasting, and formatting the output of the Mini's MBL to and from a spreadsheet and into the MK3 G81 converter.

This is awesome! Future people will never know how much time you have saved them!

Is there a reason these wouldn't work? I see no reason why they wouldn't fit in the heatbed holes. Maybe I am missing something.

They look like the ones I got just not black (if the colour bothers you). But I wouldn't like to say they were definitely right, but they look right? 🙂

There is a really good reason why they probably won't work.

In the picture below, the left two screws are torx, the right, hex.

Now take a look at what happens when you use a regular hex screw. Notice how it sticks out above the heated bed.

Hope that helps.

So you are saying that the hex head makes the actual head of it slightly bigger? That is why you are recommending torx? Weird as they look to have the same footprint tool wise. I can't find any on Amazon and I am extremely rural so no parts shops that would carry them local to me.

Do you have a link to the ones you got? And did you see the pictures he posted below? Is your result similar?

I agree.  I experienced this myself. they don't work.

From authors original post:

  • 8 M3x16 flat head countersunk Torx screws (hex will not work)

Well I know what the post said. But it doesn't clarify why. Now he did. I find it odd though because the footprint of a Hex and Torx are extremely close in size.

Exactly what I am saying. Look closely at the first pic comparing the screws, the hex has an ever so slightly taller head.
