Hi all, ordered a mosquito and now just wondering what mount I should use. I saw this remixed design and I like it a lot, its a single piece that replaces the stock heatsink.

The big change is ~6mm difference in Y but I think that would actually help with the cooling fan angle of approach, since the large heating block of the mosquito gets really close the to the fan housing (on x carriage), moving it away from the carriage and down 1mm or so will basically intersect the original cooling zone of the x carriage fan. There are drawings in the remixed design that illustrate this. 

I've also remixed the remixed, moved the mosquito 1mm closer the the x carriage (to move it even more in-line with the stock cooling angle) and opened up the front of the housing so you can see the mosquito image on the heatsink (like on woraphot's design)

Wondering what others think (since I'm a noob, this is my first printer).

@woraphot how is your version 3 x-carriage housing going?

I'm also wondering about adjusting PID values like the post above.

One question- have you adjusted your PID values at all? Running through the calibrations, I’m unable to pass the “self test” due to temps. When preheating to PETG, for example, it’ll hit 230 no problem, then overshoot to about 236-237 before cooling takes effect and settling at 230.

I’ve checked my installation, verified the boron nitride paste is on the heater and thermister, so I don’t think that’s the problem. Have you seen anything similar?

Have you tried on 4.1.0 firmware? I think they adjusted the default PID to better account for overshoots.

Still overshooting, but by the time the actual print starts, it’s settled. I’m pretty satisfied with this first layer calibration! Here’s to hoping PID Calibration comes to the Mini’s firmware.

PID tuning is there. Just run the following gcode from a terminal: M303 C8 D S200

I have run PID tuning with several fan speed combinations and found the default PID works best.  I'm running the 4.1 firmware and do see the overshoot you described.  The overshoot, for me, is most pronounce when heating up to bed-levelling temperature at 170C and only overshoot by a small amount when heating up to print temperature before quickly stabilised.  I have been printing at various temperature without any issues; CF-reinforced Nylon at 255-260C, 12+hours-long print on both PLA and PETG.

I have no problem passing the SelfTests, also.  Did you start your self-test while the system is heated up?  I found that sometimes it resulted in test failure while waiting too long for the temperature to drop down before heating up.  In other words, do the selftest when everything is at room temperature.

Just noticed that you have a sock on, PID tuning might improve things for you.

I've tried running the Self-Test both ways- from a cold and hot "start." Both fail. I see the same results you described from the hot-start (fails to cool fast enough). 

I'm going to run the PID tuning and see if there's any improvement.

Well the gcode I posted just spots out the new PIDs. You still have to apply them with M301 Px.xx Ix.xx Dx.xx

According to the Buddy firmware changelog, it does not mention that it will not be saved. As opposed to other settings that are specifically mentioned as not being saved.

 Does that make sense? Anyway to answer your question, I am not sure... But you might as week add it to your start gcode. That's what I did.

As far as I know, M500 (save to Eeprom) is deactivated on the Prusa MINI.

The only variables from Marlin allowed to be stored in the EEPROM are the Live Adjust Z and PID calibration.

I'm still waiting on mine to be delivered too! I'll post the remix once I confirm it actually fits and works as intended.

You can also change the origin point in PrusaSlicer, default is (0,0)

Printer Settings > General > Bed Shape

I am 99% done with the MK3S hotend conversion. It now prints with no errors during mesh leveling. Love it...

WOW! keep us posted when the last 1% is done 🙂 

Would this be a more ideal upgrade vs a mosquito hotend ? I am debating what to do with my Mini.
