Variable layer width
Hello,
I have an idea of another approach to full fill of printed objects that should fill all the gaps way better that 100% infil and keep mechanical strength. Using zounds of perimeter makes 100% but all extrusions are layered exactly one on another and thus:
- no crossings and probably lower adhesion
- surely visible pattern, so not for transparent objects
If I was able to switch width of external perimeter on every layer, the object would print very differently, so I was thinking that there may be a way to script around it somehow. I tried making shaking model which was moved by half width on every layer and result seem very cool, just need to be heavy sanded to get the final shape.

Check out Arachne
Check out Ultimaker's Arachne Cura branch. That's more-or-less what they're doing. Rather than fitting fixed-width extrusions into a shape, they're analyzing the shape and adjusting extrusions to fit. Early days yet, but it sounds promising.
