Top/Solid Infill Orientation

Hello,

I'm printing a part which will work as a heat sink using TCPoly's ICE9 flex filament.

TCPoly recommends for best performance that the extrusion direction is always compatible with the heat flow, in other words I want the whole top part of the part to be extruded in the same direction.

I've created a hight range modifier so that the "top" of the part will have 100% aligned rectilinear infill and changed the orientation to 180º which is what I wanted.

However, as you can see from the images below the "Solid Infill" and "Top Solid Infill" alternate orientations which I can't seem to control. Is there any way to keep them aligned with the "Internal Infill" orientation?

I've tried changing "solid layers" under "horizontal shells" to 1 but that didn't work.

I've attached images below with the top layers in order from top to bottom.

Thanks,

No PS interleaves the angles of fill for strength.  There have been various requests to change it over on github from what I recall.

The only way I know of to do it (and the method has some conditions that might not make it suitable for you) is to select Infill type as Aligned Rectilinear  (set the angle to whatever you want) and set the percentage to 100%.  The you can set the top and/or bottom layers to zero.  That make the infill go right to the surface and its then all the one way at whatever angle you set.

You could probably use a modifier mesh to make it do so in specific areas but I haven't tried that and given the limitations of modifiers when it comes to perimeters etc you will have to experiment.

This seems to work for me, thanks. 👍

Glad that's worked out for your use case.  I remember seeing it discussed with regards to getting prints to be as clear as possible.  While its very difficult to get them really transparent, printing everything in the same direction makes it better apparently.  It just stuck in my memory as its one of those techniques that may come in handy one day.
