PrusaSlicer much more stringing comparing to S3D

Hi guys! So I've been using S3D for a long time, but since it is paid, its getting old and almost no development is being made, I've decided to try PrusaSlicer and really love the UI and the way settings are arranged. Although I'm facing a huge issue that I can't seem to solve. When printing an object from PrusaSlicer I'm getting a lot of string comparing with S3D using the same settings. I've set the maximum extruder speedrate to 120 mm/s in Marlin but seems that in PrusaSlicer, retraction movements are slower than in S3D. I've even copied the starting G-CODE from S3D to PrusaSlicer, seems that the extruder speed might be a little faster but still produces a lot of stringing. Below are the retraction settings for each slicer, the G-CODE scripts and an image showing the stringing. I'm also using a bowden extruder. In PrusaSlicer at the Printer Settings, the checkbox "Use Firmware Retraction" is unchecked.

G-CODE Scripts:

Starting Script

G21 ;metric values
G90 ;absolute positioning
M82 ;set extruder to absolute mode
M107 ;start with the fan off
M301 P23.91 I2.48 D57.59; PID Tuning for 200 ºC
G28 X0 Y0 ;move X/Y to min endstops
G28 Z0 ;move Z to min endstops
G1 Z20 ;move Z to min endstops
G92 E0 ;zero the extruded length
G1 F200 E8 ;extrude 8mm of feed stock
G92 E0 ;zero the extruded length again
G4 4000
G1 F9000
M117 Printing...

Ending Script

M104 S0 ; turn off extruder
M140 S0 ; turn off bed
G91 ;relative positioning
G1 E-1 F300 ;retract the filament a bit before lifting nozzle
to release pressure
G1 Z+4 E-5 X-20 Y-20 F9000 ;move Z up a bit and retract filament even more
G28 X0 Y0 ;move X/Y to min endstops
so the head is out of the way
M107 ; Turn off fan
G1 Y200 F9000 ;move out to get part off
M84 ; disable motors
G90 ;absolute positioning

Difference between objects. At left was sliced with PrusaSlicer, right sliced with S3D.

I don't know what to change in PrusaSlicer to avoid the tremendous stringing. In S3D I get a little bit of stringing at the top, but most of the prints are stringing and ooze free.

I hope you could help me.

Best regards,
João Dias

Biggest bang for the buck I found with stringing that would be slicer-specific would be calibrating your extrusion multiplier. If your PrusaSlicer settings are giving you a bit of over-extrusion, that can cause fine stringing. Notes here.

I general this may be true, but it is very much dependent on the filament used.

@cwbullet

But I've used the same filament, same temperatures as well. Even with PETG, almost no stringing in S3D but in PrusaSlicer it gets very hairy 😆

Is there anything missing in my configurations? Some checkbox I might have forgotten?

@bobstro

Thank you for the tip, that might actual work. I've only done extruder steps calibration and PID tuning, forgot that. Thank you for the tip, I'll try it.

Do you have "avoid crossing perimeters" selected?

@towlerg

No, I don't have that option selected.

In theory it should reduce stringing, well actually but the string in side, there's a write up of the new algorithm they are using in 2.3
