PrusaSlicer 2.4.0-alpha3 Color change issues with manual color change

Is there a reason after manually changing the color on a multicolor print, the extruder runs while the head is moving back into position to start printing. This causes filament to extrude and cause issues where it picks back up on the print.  I just printed a part with 2 color changes and it did it both times.  I doo not remember this being an issue when i did this with previous versions of the slicer.

Printing on MK3S

Thanks, James

As far as I recall, it has always been like that, certainly in the 2.3 versions. I just use needle-nosed pliers to hold on to the filament as it is being extruded, and just pull it off quickly as soon as the print head moves back into place.

Prior to observing this "feature" I was using PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 with MK3S firmware at 3.9.  After updating the firmware to 3.10 and the slicer to 2.4.0 alpha3 is when I noticed this behavior.  I assumed it was created by the slicer but I read in another forum that it may have been created with the firmware changes.  My question was whether this "feature" is intentional or if it is a big and will bee fixed.  It is not very convenient to chase the print head as it moves back into place to pull extruding filament, especially when performing a color change at low z heights.

I had this situation on my Mk1 about 7 years ago... I believe it's a feature of Marlin. a number of people have crusaded, to get it changed. but it's still here.

I just hold on to the whole worm cast, a the extruder purges the nozzle...

I resistt he temptation to pull the waste off, and when the extruder goes back to the print, the extra purge/ nozzle pressurisation squirt remains with the worm cast, whilst the nozzle goes back to where it last stopped...

that it the bit which irritates me, I would rather it moved directly to the next start point for the new colour

regards Joan
