PrusaSlicer 2.3.1 and Sidewinder X1

I am using the default profile for the Sidewinder X1 in PrusaSlicer, but it turns out I have a problem.

I export the gcode to a usb key, plug the usb key into the SWX1 and start printing, the problem is that the nozzle moves in the left corner of the devand, puts the nozzle against the plate and starts to heat up , and this may therefore damage the platter.

I have chat with other people and they did not have this concern.

On the other hand, I just thought of one thing, on the glass plate of the original SWX1, I added a magnetic plate made up of the magnetic part and then a sheet of steel, to compensate for this, I I screwed in the rollers more to lower the tray, in your opinion, could that be the problem?

I specify that I did not touch the end of the Z travel, just screw the wheels back to lower the plate, to compensate for the thickness of the magnetic plate.

@Bobstro might be a good reference to ask questions.

Chuck - if Bob wanted to comment, he would. He doesn't need your help finding more work.  Really - Swiss was right - you post in every thread with info that is usually obvious, and usually redundant. If you can't add value - try to refrain from spamming threads.

I'm understanding that you applied one of the magnetic sheets with the adhesive back onto your Sidewinder glass bed and then a spring steel sheet on top of that. Is that correct? This is fairly common with the Sidewinder. Have you printed with it in this configuration before? Have you been using another slicer and sending that gcode to the Sidewinder without problems?

What you are describing is what I would expect if you had NOT re-leveled your bed (adjusted the 1st layer nozzle gap) using the corner screws. You should have adjusted the screws quite a bit tighter (lower) to accommodate the extra height of the magnetic layer and spring steel sheet.

If you have been using another slicer (Cura perhaps?), post your startup gcode here so we can see it. You might have something in there that raises the Sidewinder nozzle a bit higher before each print. Are you using automatic mesh bed leveling (ABL e.g., BLTouch) of some sort? Another possibility is that the startup gcode you are using is NOT configured to use ABL and that's the problem.

While you're at it, save your current  PrusaSlicer 3MF project file, zip it up, and attach it to a reply here so we can see your part & settings and give better recommendations. I'll compare it to what I use for my Sidewinder.

PrusaSlicer works very well for the Artillery Sidewinder X1, so it's worth a bit of work to get it set up correctly.

LOL - No worries guys. My sons are visiting for the 1st time in 18 months, so I'm not near the computer much this week. Chuck buys all the crazy stuff and tests it, so he's performing a valuable service. I don't mind if people get pointed my way for info on the Sidewinder.

@allan-fonroques - I just looked at your video and it does not appear that you are using ABL (BLTouch) of any sort. Be sure that you are using the "Sidewinder X1" and NOT "Sidewinder X1 BL-TOUCH".

I have the same problem with PrusaSlicer 2.3.1 and Sidewinder X1, i`m using the Sidewinder X1 profile without ABL. 🙁

Just out of curiosity - I have a similar printer with a glass bed and I wonder why you would change to some other build surface.

As far as I can see the only downside of the glass bed is that you have to let the bed cool down for longer than a flexible bed.

The upside is that not only does the glass bed work well with all the materials I've tried so far (PETG, ABS, ASA and CPE) but it's super flat, all I ever do is level that corners and I'm good to go. I have a BLTouch but never bothered to fit it as it seemed pointless.

You guys are welcome to try my Sidewinder profiles. Ask if you have any issues.

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.3.1 and Sidewinder X1

Hi chaps, new to the forum but stumbled across this as I have the same problem. Not solved it yet and I'm no good with Gcode so not sure how to solve this.

One temp solution I have is to preheat the machine to the correct temp... I looked at the Gcode in PrusaSlicer and it shows:
; Initial setupsG90
; use absolute coordinatesM83
; extruder relative modeM220 S100
; reset speed factor to 100%M221 S100
; reset extrusion rate to 100%
; Set the heatingM190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature]
; wait for bed to heat upM104 S[first_layer_temperature]
; start nozzle heating but don't wait
; HomeG1 Z3 F3000
; move z up little to prevent scratching of surfaceG28
; home all axesG1 X3 Y3 F5000
; move to corner of the bed to avoid ooze over centre
; Wait for final heatingM109 S[first_layer_temperature]
; wait for the nozzle to heat upM190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature]
; wait for the bed to heat up
; Return to prime position, Prime line routineG92 E0
; Reset ExtruderG1 Z3 F3000
; move z up little to prevent scratching of surfaceG1 X10 Y.5 Z0.25 F5000.0
; Move to start positionG1 X100 Y.5 Z0.25 F1500.0 E15
; Draw the first lineG1 X100 Y.2 Z0.25 F5000.0
; Move to side a littleG1 X10 Y.2 Z0.25 F1500.0 E30
; Draw the second lineG92 E0
; Reset Extruder

So the position it waits in when it's touching the bed is only because it's waiting for heating up. By preheating you're basically ignoring this part and it just prints.

If anyone has any suggestions of how to solve this fully though, it would be much appreciated.

Well for a start that listing you posted is just comments.  the ; at the start of a line means the line is a comment.  There should be a line break before the actual gcode.  For example

; Initial setups
G90; use absolute coordinates
M83; extruder relative mode
M220 S100; reset speed factor to 100%
M221 S100; reset extrusion rate to 100%
;Set the heating
M190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature]
; wait for bed to heat up
M104 S[first_layer_temperature]

See how the comments are separated from the G and M commands

Thanks, I copied it straight from the slicer so not sure why it’s like that
