PrusaSlicer 0.05 layer height

Hi, I'm pretty new to 3d printing. Just replaced the standard nozzle with 0.25mm nozzle and printing the treefrog with it. I sliced with 0.05 layer height setting, but when I look at the sliced result, it jumps from 0.20 -> 0.33 -> 0.45 -> 0.55 -> 0.66 -> 0.75 (so heights of 0.13, 0.12, 0.10, 0.11, 0.9, ...). It is actually always bigger than 0.05. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal behaviour?

Save your current  3MF project file, zip it up, and attach it to a reply here so we can see your part & settings and give better recommendations.

Layer height

Treefrog

Attached the zip file. I downloaded the treefrog from https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/3116-treefrog/files , changed the printer to MMU 0.25 single and changed the print settings to 0.05mm ULTRA DETAIL, then sliced it.

Easy one

It was pretty clear from your description what's going on, and indeed, in your 3mf file, you have variable layer height set for your frog. If you click on the Variable Layer Height button in the 3D editor view and click on Reset, it will go back to 0.05 mm. So the slicer was doing exactly what you had told it to do by adjusting layer height on what it perceived was adequate, which is generally more across the model than the minimum of 0.5

Not only that but one thing that people overlook when using variable layer height is the minimum and maximum layers it will select are determined by the settings under printer settings>extruder. If I recall correctly the minimum configured on a mk3 is actually 0.07 and so thicker than the layer height of the profile anyway.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, will try without variable layer height and see if I see any difference in the final print
