RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

Update.

tried slicing the bust with grid and with cubic infill. Both times everything went perfectly. No crashes.
so ram might indeed be the issue. I’ll see if I can get a ram upgrade for the ACER and hope that works.

if a total of 20GB ram isn’t enough, I don’t know what would be. I’ll report back when I see if it fixes it.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

Hi all,

I have had problems with crashing Prusa-Slice in October 2019 too. See my posts at the beginning of this thread. My installation: Windows 10 Home 1903, newest updates, Acer A515-52G-58S9, 8GB RAM, System 128GB SSD, Data 500GB SSD

Since I start the slicer with administration rights I never have had problems again. So this was my working solution.

Interesting.  I knew gyroid used more memory as its all curves made up of short line segments when compared to other infill.  I normally use cubic as its about the same print time and is similar on strength/support anyway.  I just preferred the look of it.  Might be why I don't seem to have issues even with lower ram.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

update: upgraded to 20GB Ram in the ACER laptop, and prusaslicer still crashes.

dunno what next. hopefully the dev team can identify the issue.
though at this stage im not holding my breath, as this has been ongoing for the last few releases now.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

I have now even had crashes when slicing larger models in the software render mode.

yet using the plain slic3r latest release handles the same models with zero issues.

something is clearly wrong with the way prusa slicer is handling ram or some other thing. If 20GB isn’t enough and it’s also crashing in software render mode, something is very clearly wrong.

ill have to stop using prusa slicer until these issues are resolved.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

I am now having an issue slicing. I have a custom built pc. Ryzen 7 2700x, rxt 2080ti, 16gb ddr4 (2x8gb) 3200. It is crashing chrome, windows explorer (how to navigate folders/files) my cad program (design spark mechanical). I can still open the windows bar (lower left corner windows icon) and discord. If I run my cursor over things on my notifications bar(right lower corner) they highlight, after hovering over it for about 3-5 seconds. It did this a few hours ago too. After getting the error " unhandled unknown exception" I had to delete a file in the app data registry(according to another post on here), but it caused me to loose all my profiles. After I got it back up I sliced one file and it went alright. Now I'm slicing another file and this is happening. I tried to restart my pc from the windows menu, but after about 10-15 minutes of waiting it did nothing. So I shut my pc off from the power button, and I lost all my profiles again (just after I spent all that time updating my profiles) I hope I don't loose y profiles again. This will definitely turn me away from prusaslicer and it was my main slicer for all my printers (prusa and a variety of other printers.)

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

I cant help you with your issues as personally I dont have them but I can help you with your profiles.  Next time you have them set up try using the Export Config Bundle option located under file>export.  This will save all your Custom profiles to an ini file.  They can then be imported in on any other machine or install to restore them.  This does not backup any of the system profiles though, only ones you have saved.  If you want to save the lot then just back a backup copy of the profiles directory to a safe location.

@mastercatz

--sw-renderer is a Windows only switch.

@jason_m

If you have an ACER laptop, then you may have the Nahimic driver installed.

Issues · prusa3d/PrusaSlicer (github.com)

You may want to disable that dreaded piece of software, which interferes with PrusaSlicer.

We don't know what causes that problem, we never got our hands on such a machine. We are currently at least building a detection of the Nahimic driver injecting its DLL into PrusaSlicer process, so the user will be warned.

thanks  this is the first time I’ve ever had a possible explanation for the previous crashing I had

with 2.3 so far I have not had a crash  even with more complex and larger models

would disabling that driver dll have negative impacts on the rest of the laptop ?

so far as I said 2.3 seems much better  in all ways too.

It is some weird audio enhancement software that supposedly utilizes GPU.

If slicer crashes your entire PC, then the problem is not in PrusaSlicer, but in your PC.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

it happens every time slicer finishes slicing , no other issues with PC , GPU just dies on me and I have to power cycle

recently swapped out my old R9 290's for Vega 64 and has been doing it since

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

happens to me every time I try slicing all these parts on a plate over 500 x 500

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1155505?fbclid=IwAR2w_nRnGyYN2IwUqauFQwOEWTKm24nBaWrdXFakakFz--fHJYAokm3RJQI

if I split them in half it does not do it

Ran a memory check  and all passed and did GPU / CPU torture tests and all passed  did crc/md5  check of all OS files all passed

go back to slicer and as soon as slicing in complete crashes GPU

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

Save your project file of all the parts as a 3mf (Project>Save As).  Zip up the 3mf and attach it here.  Must be zipped for the forum to accept it.

That way we can slice with identical printer profiles and exactly ther same models/modiers etc.  I'll try slicing it and see what happens.

file size is a lot smaller ~ 1/20th the size of the stl file , also interested in seeing how it will act loading the .3mf file
