Multiple colours for a sign with 2 layer text, 2 different materials and 2 filament changes?

I'm looking for a way to print a sign with two filaments (timber and petg).

To make it easy to visualise what I'm trying to do, imagine a circle inside a square, with a three layer print, the circle is PETG, the square is Timber.

Layer 1, Filament 1: I want it to print the timber first, a square with a hole in it. Trigger filament change.

Layer 1, Filament 2: Print the circle in PETG.

Layer 2, Filament 2: Print the circles second layer in PETG. Trigger filament change.

Layer 2, Filament 1: Print the square with the hole in it.

Layer 3, Filament 1: Print a solid square, all done.

I hope this makes sense 🙂 Is this possible?

What I usually do for signs is just emboss the text, then trigger a filament change when the emboss starts. Not I finally have a textured PEI sheet, I want to take advantage of the beautiful finish it leaves.

If I could manage to achieve what I want to do above, I would hopefully end up with a delightful sign with the lovely textured finish all on the same level. I have in the past embossed face down, then printed over the top and bridged the text, that's ok, but I would love to be able to do as specified above.

Cheers guys!

I posted this make on Thingiverse of a bird-seed scoop. I used the technique described in this thread: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-how-do-i-print-this-printing-help/acting-as-my-own-mmu/ (which at a quick brush seems similar to the link posted by @vintagepc ). It took a while of babysitting the printer to do filament swaps (I pulled out a book to pass the time between filament swaps), but I think the result in the end was worth it.

Yes mate, I have looked at that. But wasn't sure if I could print in the order I wanted? Seems a bit convoluted for something as simple as what I'm after 🙂 I'm not sure how it will go with different materials also.

Your sequence is the default multicolour printing sequence if you load the woodfill filament to extruder 1 and PETG to extruder 2.

Rainer's multicolour profile (with all three tabs saved to a new name after loading) will work perfectly.

Thanks all, I used the method @joantabb suggested. Worked a treat! 😊

It was just that all the instructions I saw were for slicer 1.4 whatever, and I'm rocking 2.0 these days. I'm more into structural prints than pretty, so only delve as deep as I need. Joan's method was how I thought it should be done, and once I saw how she did it, I was able to get a great result.
