Missing layer slicing .stl file

Hi to all,

I'm trying to slice and print an stl file from https://github.com/SimFeedback/SimFeedback-AC-Servo/blob/master/STL/Item/ITEM__slider.stl

When slicing with Prusaslicer v2.2 the print shows a missing layer in the upper narrow part.

Any suggestion how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

All the best, Wido

Probably a corrupt .stl file.

You can try repairing it with Prusaslicer, or if you're adventurous, Meshlab.

I've had some luck using Freecad.

1. Import into Freecad.

2. Convert mesh to shape.

3. Refine shape. Look for obvious issues and fix them.

4. Convert to solid.  If this fails, the .stl file definitely has issues.

5. Re-export to .stl or .obj

@jsw

The .stl file is sliced correctly in Simplify3D, which I don't have, but confirmed by other users.

Repairing it with Prusaslicer does not solve the problem.

Could there be a bug in Prusaslicer? Or do I make a mistake in the settings?

I will have a look into your suggestions.

Thanks!

Try the attached .stl file in the .zip.  Most definitely corrupt - disjoint solid sections.

Simple fix with Meshlab.

STL checked with S3D:

fixed with netfabb online tool:

...and as @jsw mentioned, meshlab is also well suited for repairing faulty STL files.

https://www.meshlab.net/ (Open Source)

Thank you for your support @jsw!

I will run the print overnight.

I didn't see any vertical issues, only the very small missing piece.

A couple of the 'usual suspect' Meshlab tools fixed it quickly.

I forgot - here is the netfabb fix (for comparison): ITEM__slider_fixed
