Huge gaps in model

Hello, I want to print this:

Which I got from here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3067279

I'm going to add supports and everything so it can actually print, but before I do that, when I try to just slice the model, I get this:

Which has huge gaps and chunks missing. So I went ahead and tried to repair the model, but when I do that, I get this:

Which has the intentional empty rings in the saucer filled in, which I don't want. I have a mk3s with a .25 mm nozzle. Am I missing something stupid to get this working, or am I out of luck? Thanks in advance.

RE: Huge gaps in model

Generally you want to start with a non-broken object in the first place though, the Netfabb fix won't always save you as you noticed.

You might need the original creator of the model to upload a fixed object unfortunately. Someone here might be nice enough to look at the model to see what's wrong with it, potentially.

RE: Huge gaps in model

I took a go at it, as its not an stl but an obj file which isnt the best for blender, but there are many double vertices and there are lots of intersecting shells/parts. Of those individual parts many are not manifold internally.  Its basically a mess.

After cleaning up all the individual parts and exporting it as a stl for Slicer to use it gave pretty much the same result as fixing it though netfabb with the saucer section filled in.  Its basically not a good model as far as slicing is concerned.  Slicer has a problem with vertices that should be joined but arent and when you use a bit of automated software to merge them (like what I did in Blender and what Netfabb does) then you get the filled in sections.  Without spending days trying to fix all the issues manually the best bet is to get the original creator to do a fixed version.
