Gap when switching from single perimeter to double perimeter

Hi,

I want to print this thing.

Halfway through the print I noticed a gap on the backside of the fan duct. The model itself is fine, it seems to be an issue with extrusion width.

I have a 0.4mm nozzle on my Artillery Genius and 'Default extrusion width' is set to '0', so according to the tooltip the extrusion width is 0.4mm  x 1.125 = 0.45mm. It seems the gap results from the transition from a single perimeter to a double perimeter:

When manually lowering the extrusion width to 4.1mm the gap is gone:

I would at least have expected PrusaSlicer to warn me when creating a gap in the outer perimeter. Better even suggesting the decreased extrusion width or solving the issue somehow else on it's own.

Is there any setting that would help to avoid this?

XY Size Compensation. in expert mode, under Print Settings>advanced sub menu

try say 0.05mm, or maybe 0.1mm

Or try a 0.25mm nozzle with appropriate settings.

regards Joan

You can also try turning 'detect thin walls' on/off as that usually makes a difference to effects like that.

Also when it actually prints its not likely to have that gap as the walls will merge,  often those are a shortcoming of the preview renderer.

@neophyl

Turning off 'Detect thin walls' fixed it with 0.45mm extrusion width. Thanks!

@namron Are you happy with the Genius? Any issues with the ribbon cable?

@towlerg

I just have the printer for  2 weeks now, so no long-term experience. But for now I am really happy with it. Printing results are exceeding my expectations and absolutely no problems with the ribbon cables so far.
