SL1 hose fume vent

Because of the awful smell I created a hose adapter for the Prusa SL1, details are on thingiverse:

I printed this lovely shaped hose adapter, fully intending to use it, only to find out that a lot of the resin smell actually comes from the cracks around the lid, and not through the exhaust fan (with carbon filter). The temperature inside the housing rises, raising the pressure in the area with the resin vat, and the air intake fan also adds more pressure, all of which means that not all the smelly resin filled air can be pumped out in time through the rear fan.

I went for a different approach instead: Putting the resin printer in an enclosure (IKEA Kallax furniture) that has plenty of cracks to allow resin-free air to flow into the enclosure, with a 90mm PC case fan sucking the air out of the enclosure, into a 10cm dryer hose that hangs out of the window (with foam blocking off the perimeter of that window to prevent the resin filled air from being sucked right back into the room again.

Both my Prusa SL1 and my Anycubic Mono X each have their own enclosure with their own 90mm exhaust fan ventilating the enclosure. I also added a ligt bulb near the air intake of the SL1 to raise the temperature of the air in the enclosure a bit to make sure that the starting operating temperature of SL1 is high enough to prevent the typical issues with the resin being too cold at the beginning of a print (normal temperature in the living room is around 18 degrees C).

And this is how the whole IKEA Kallax setup with 3 3D printers and a CW1 looks, complete with hoses to ventilate the two resin printers.

Now if I could only manage to fit my Anet ET5 pro printer in that Kallax cabinet as well... 😋
