new vs old tanks
Posted by: @komitadjie

If FedEx isn't lying, it's sitting on my front porch right now! Needless to say, I'm kinda excited to get home!

Got an email from Prusa suggesting that I should check the torque on the tank-bottom screws and water test it before use... I'm kinda scared there, reading on all the original tank leak issues. Have to see what happens!

Hopefully they have fixed/improved that issue, but as someone that had to clean up multiple leaks in a single week I would suggest at least a 24 hour water test just to be sure. Having to pull the LCD and get down inside the printer to find and remove resin is not fun...

Hmm... If they did fix the issue I wonder if the new tanks will work with the color LCD configuration. I don't recall the top plate being in the upgrade part list which means that the new LCD's frame is probably the same size as the old one. If that is case it could be possible that the new tank would work. I have 4 tanks already and have my o-rings so I wouldn't be getting a new tank outside of when/if I get the upgrade, but it will be interesting to see a side by side comparison of the old and new tanks from someone that does get the upgrade.

What would be really ideal (since I have 4) is if the old tanks will continue to work with the new LCD. I like the heft and solid feel of the old tanks, just wish they had properly polished that lip for a good seal.

SL1S Shipping Schedule?

Posted by: @prus-77

Nope, no news here yet 🙁

Looks like we SL1S upgraders will be waiting a while then.

Like a moron I ordered a bunch of MK3s supplies at the same time as the SL1S upgrade and just realized that the entire order might be  delayed until they had everything in stock.  Prusa chat was very helpful and broke the entire order in two - Sl1S upgrade in one order and everything else in a second order.  The second order shipped almost immediately, so it was worth the extra $20 in shipping cost.

Woohoo!

Very nice! I am very curious about your first results and judgment regarding the FEP film (see the post by gnat).

Sorry, but the best I find your ultrasonic device from Hornady! 😉 I am also a sport shooter and reloader.

Testing!

Got all the unpacking and calibration done, made sure all the screws in the tank were snug as the Prusa rep suggested, and I've got the tank full of water to the "max" line resting on a paper towel right now.  I'm a *bit* worried, I was able to see water beginning to wick under the rim almost immediately, we'll see what happens.  So far, so good, about 20min in.  Going to let it sit for ~24hrs before I fill with resin.  If it holds that long, I can deal with pulling and cleaning the resin tank between prints if I have to.

Ooooh. Only 4 screws for the LCD. That'll make removing and installing the LCD far less tedious! I still wouldn't want to mess with resin spills/leaks though😉😄

Heh

Yeah, no kidding!  I'd rather avoid resin dribbling around if I possibly can.  I'm eyeballing getting some o-rings on the way, just in case, since from what I read that was a total solution with the aluminum tanks.

Six hours in, so far not a sign of leakage at all!  Fingers crossed.

In the shop, the upgrade has changed to: "Shipping starts in early August."

Level of shock and surprise is zero. All this company ever does with product launch is over promise and under deliver. Absolutely sickening. Every. Single.  Time.

No Leaks Yet!

Overnight, no sign of leakage yet, 'bout twelve hours into the test.

That's awesome news! In my testing of the old tanks the best I saw with water was only an hour or two before leaks were evident.

I'm clearly anti Prusa over their SLA products and their lack of logistics, but they actually did manage to get the full units to start shipping in the originally promised June/July timeframe. Credit where credit is due and it doesn't surprise me that they'd focus first on getting full printers out rather than the parts (especially if parts are limited in supply).

It's a shame that the upgrade has been pushed off, but like you I'm not surprised. It does feel like they at least made an effort with this release though.

Great news here, then!  Because I'm not seeing a speck at all after ~14 hours.

I do. I blame them 100%. They have a total disregard for FIFO style shipping. They had a company representative in this very thread just a couple days ago state that they UPGRADES were starting to ship THIS WEEK. They're all about taking money from upgrades to supply the other orders. Company needs to seriously reevaluate their way of doing things. People that have already bought are just as valuable (if not moreso than the new customers). I guess they forget that this world only has a limited amount of people they can burn. As a repeat customer, I am frankly getting tired of it.

go figure...

"Ready and in the production queue"?? Cool. Now pushed to August apparently? Nice move. Still no stl files as promised for the CW1 platform. Have to admit, I am not surprised.... the more things change, the more they remain the same at Prusa Research.

@jakub-dolezal-2

Great. When are the upgrade kits beginning to ship?

And when are the STL files for the CW1 update being posted to github?

Hi EC,

the upgrades are ready and in the production queue. As promised to @mibauer, I will talk to my colleagues regarding the shipping table.

STL files for CW1 to CW1S platform upgrade will be up this week. We are finishing the tests of the G-codes for you guys. I will release it at once.

They had a company representative in this very thread just a couple days ago state that they UPGRADES were starting to ship THIS WEEK.

Actually, he did not say that. He said that the assembled printers started shipping on the 8th and he responded to you saying he would check on the shipping estimates for the upgrades and get back to you (which he never did in this thread).

I agree with you otherwise that Prusa is completely in the wrong. My point, however, is that given that the assembled printers indeed started shipping in the original time frame shows that they may have started addressing their logistical issues. Only time will tell if this was just a fluke or not though.

Personally I'll continue to be skeptical of their release dates until they can show a consistent pattern of not over promising.

Well that's a bummer (from the new firmware notes) 😔

SL1S SPEED introduces a brand new resin tank, which is made from a different material and also has a different size, compared to the SL1. Also, the print platform is larger to utilize the larger print screen fully. These changes affect the resin sensor, which is responsible for measuring the volume of the resin in the tank.

The firmware expects that the user uses the correct platform and tank for SL1S SPEED. Inserting an older platform or resin tank from the SL1 is not recommended as it might confuse the measuring algorithm. For larger objects, the platform won't be able to cover the entire area of the screen. Combining the older tank and newer platform may lead to potential problems - such as resin overflowing, so this is generally not recommended.

So, 2+weeks out.  I can live with that if it happens to be true.
