Octolapse snapshot settings

What do you guys use for your snapshot setting in octolapse? When I left octolapse in the default compatibility settings, I was getting layer shifts like crazy. I tried the "high quality" preset but it skips most of my prints. I'm curious if someone else on here has a dialed in setting that works for them.

I’m using a RPI 3B+ and have not seen this behavior yet.  Only ran a few prints so far with Octolapse.

Interesting. I experienced this as well. I assumed first it was a hardware failure until I got the second printer up and running (with the same issues). I figured it was one of the plugins and deinstalled most of them. Right now: No skips anymore. But, as I had many plugins before I neither can properly trace it nor do I want to invest time into it. Octoprint was one of the plugins.

What is weird is that this only happens when octolapse is enabled. I’ve had the printer for nearly a year now and have never has a layer shift except when using octolapse. Also to note, the only layer shifts in seeing are only in the x-axis

Octolapse intercepts the gcode stream and inserts movement commands to position the extruder and bed for the glamour shots. Unless you have it configured correctly to match your printer settings, it can cause exactly this sort of problem. There are a few YouTube videos on setup, but I disabled it until I have time to configure it correctly.

ok, I figured most of it myself. It is actually a bit more than that. As the error appears on random quite seldomly, most of it is just guesswork. When I said it would happen with Octolapse/Octoprint I meant with the plugin installed, active or inactive didn´t make much of a difference. It is the only plugin that inserts gcode, so the others could not possibly be a problem (more of that later). Everytime I had a major malfunction by Octoprint/Octolapse I decided to copy the exact same gcode onto the sd card and let it print: flawless.

So currently I am repeating the test: To the right is the sd card result, to the left is an inactive Octolapse.

I set up a new image of Octoprint with just the enclosure plugin and the fullscreen webcam added and I will repeat the same test later on (takes 18 hours and 200 g of filament and most annoyingly it is a prototype that needs to be tested first before 'mass' production. But at least it is a gcode that seems always to trigger the layer shift).

Reporting back...

Added:

I own a second exact copy of this machine with a copy of the image of Octoprint/Octolapse, Octolapse inactive: It exactly shows the same behaviour. So, it can't be caused by the Prusa.

RE: Octolapse snapshot settings

Ok, 20 hours later (actually 28 hours and an additional, non representative print later) we got a winner: Left we have the Octoprint/inactive Octolapse, in the middle Sd card and on the right a fresh Octoprint install with enclosure and full webcam plugin.

Same picture on the second printer, no layer shifts at all in a 40 hour print. This install is the original one with 20+ plugins minus Octoplase (deinstalled, gone forever).

So, as my time is precious and in the hope the failure is gone: Thats it from my side: High probability is that Octolapse in an installed, but inactive status doesn't leave its fingers from the gcode.

I hope, someone follows that up. Octolapse was actually fun, but caused me lots of imperfect prints and a long search for a solution.
