MMU2S Multi-Material/Single Filament

I have a 2 filament print coming up that uses over 1 Kg of filament.   Since most of the print uses filament "A", it would help if I could tell the slicer/printer to use Single Mode on spools 1 and 2 for "A", and spool 3 for "B".

Have I missed an existing feature, or am I asking for a new feature?

im not exactly sure if i understood what you want to do you want to load the same filament into 1 and 2 so it can switch from one to the other if it runs out and also have filament 3 which is the other color you want to have?

this would only work if your model allows you to separate the filament 1 parts into another section where you just switch over to filament 2 after a certain height.

or the easy way you just start printing and when filament one runs out it will detect it and you load a new spool to continue.

Yes, you understood what I was asking for.

And, yes, I could manually swap out the filament when a reel ran out.

But, the manual swap always seems to happen when I'm asleep or at work. Having the MMU set up to be able to do a "selective" single filament mode would be helpful.

At a minimum, it would take a firmware update. You would have to go to the display and select which filament(s) feeds actually map to each "extruder" listed in the gcode generated by the slicer. And any option like this would have the potential to really screw up the following print if you forget to reset the system.

Just a thought.

Well, after a surprise failed print, I found the answer.  Apparently since firmware version 3.5.2, if SpoolJoin is active in Multi-Material mode, and a filament runs out, the MMU2 will start using the next filament.

In my failed print, I had two materials running, A & B as filaments 1 & 2.  Filament 1 ran out, after which everything was printed in filament 2 (i.e material B).  Given that the model requires 1.2 Kg of filament A, I now have two spools of type A as filaments 1 & 2, with material B as filament 3.

So starts another multi-day print.
