How to print supports with different materials (non-soluble)?

When I use flexible filament (PolyFlex) the supports do not remove cleanly. I want to try printing with PLA supports instead.

However, when I tried to set up a print to use PLA supports, I got the error message: "The Wipe Tower currently supports the non-soluble supports only if they are printed with the current extruded without triggering a tool change."

If I set the contact distance to 0, I can pretend that PLA is soluble and trick the slicer into letting me do it, but this is obviously not ideal since I want easily detachable supports.

Since the wipe tower doesn't seem to support this at the moment, is there any work-around I can use in the meantime? I tried to get around this limitation by using a wipe object (a simple box) but it didn't work properly.

While not exactly helpful, I know there is a workaround for this. I recently did something similar a while a go with PETG as a PLA support material.

You  might very well be able to set the support distance to 0 - I don't know how well PLA and flex adhere to each other but PLA/PETG do not - so support breaks away cleanly even with no clearance.
