MMU2S Selector no longer moving after firmware update

Hi,

I just updated the firmwares (3.7.0 → 3.8.0 & 1.0.5 → 1.0.6) Now the selector no longer moves, the idler body seems to not match its rotation to the selected filament slot and the whole unit swiftly enters the failure mode (all LEDs flashing red, see video)

I already performed a factory reset for the MMU2S (as described in the PDF coming with the firmwares).

Any idea what might be wrong?

Okay so I let it sit for two days and now it seems fine. I'm puzzled.

I am having the same issue with mine,  it has been printing fine for months now this,  going to try and let it sit for a few days and see if it fixes mine too

I think this is the same problem described here: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mmu2s-mmu2-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/mmu2s-keeps-resetting-red-green-leds-flashing-at-once/

I had the same issue today. I upgraded to the latest firmware (3.8.0-2684 MK3S, 1.0.6-372 MMU2S) some weeks ago and printed exclusively in MMU2S single filament mode. Then during the last days I started printing also some multi material without issues, but today I encountered this problem, with all MMU motors still, only the led flashing like in the normal sequence, and then all leds flashing in both red and green.
After resetting the printer sometimes it works, sometimes not.

@messismore

It looks to me like your FINDA sensor is triggered. The MMU thinks there is filament inside that's why it refuses to move and gives you an error.

@emanuele-i

There is no generic "blinking" issue. It's very important to understand when it happens and under which conditions (reproducable). Unfortunately the printer does not provide detailed information about the root cause of blinking, so it's up to the user to understand that.

OMG. This solves my problem (so far at least). I couldn't figure out why the idler would rotate but the selector wouldn't move on startup but about 5% of the time I could figure an incantation to make it work. I upgraded the firmware and turned MMU2 silent mode to normal. It seemed to help- I could at least get partway into a print. Then I discovered this thread, pushed some filament through the MMU2S FINDA and it's suddenly working.

@nikolai-3

Thanks, this solved my problem, I had a piece of broken filament inside!
