MMU Bypass

One feature that stood out was the ability to quickly take the mmu on and off if you only wanted to use it occasionally. Is there a manual write up for this?

couldn't you just use filament 1? that might be a good option till they sort out the shanaghans.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

I don't know that there's a manual, but it's very simple:

1) Disconnect the bowden tube from the MK3 extruder.
2) Disconnect the MMU power and/or signal cable.
3) Cycle the power on the MK3.

When the MK3 restarts it will return to non-MMU mode because it doesn't detect the MMU.

Alternatively, you can use the MMU in single material mode. This has some advantages, like automatically swapping filaments when a roll runs out. In single material mode the MMU is almost completely passive, so it's just as reliable as the MK3 without the MMU.

Well I honestly don't trust the mmu and would like my reliable printer back until this shows more success thru the community. This is something that should have been tested more but was maybe rushed out. There is slack in the idler bearings as well as too much variance on the teeth that allow too high of a failure rate for my frustration levels.

Disconnecting the MMU2 power is kind of a pain. I may actually build a cable with a switch on it.

I likely won't remove the orange tube. I'll keep the same filament feed (into filament 1) and just ensure the MMU2 is open, or the bearing is shifted so there is no tension on filament1.

I agree it would be a pain to Disconnect from the Rambo board but I planned on going at it from the other side and literally removing the mmu and the giant footprint now involved.
Then once the issues are sorted go at it again.
One thing I just did to avoid any more frustration is ordered another mk3 kit. I just feel the mmu 2.0 isn’t there yet.

I guess it could be unplugged from the rear pretty easily.

A switch is something I've considered.

What it really needs is the ability to be commanded to get out of the way. Like it behaves when you fix a jam - run the filament down the tube, then rotate the drum to neutral and pretend you don't exist.

The way I do it is....

Remove the orange tube, insert filament in from the from to stop the selector moving,

This causes the mmu into fault harmlessly it seems and the MK3 just ignore it’s there until the faults cleared,

No disconnecting needed
