Save on expensive filament ?

I've been wondering lately if using the mmu2(s) with low clot filament as infill you could save on your fancier filaments. Do you think that would pan out or would you just lose that plastic to the purge anyway? so say, do 2 or 3 perimiteres in your 40$ stuff and use your amazon sale 10$ for the infill.

RE: Save on expensive filament ?

I suppose it depends on how much infill you have. Given that infill is already reduced, I wouldn't expect much saving. Now a 100% infill on a part using most of the print volume, sure.

I doubt any savings would cover the cost of the MMU if that is your primary reason for getting it.

Also consider the additional time that is added. The bed and extruder will be sucking power during that time.

Finally you need to consider the cost of failed prints and hassle of fiddling with finicky tool changes. I assume when it works it works great, but there are plenty of complaints about getting it to play nice.
