Printing With ColorFabb LW-PLA and MMU2

Hello all!

I'm continuing my experiments with the LW-PLA material. For those who don't know, this material expands at a greater rate with temperature, giving a lower density. In my case I found that the peak expansion is at 260°C. You then reduce the extrusion multiplier to give the same line width.

On my printer I found that the line width for a 0.4mm nozzle is 0.43mm at 210°C. To get the same width when expanded at 260°C the extrusion multiplier is 0.48.

The results are quite interesting. I'd like to get parts that consist of low and high density regions. To wait for temperature to go from 260-210-260 on each layer will be difficult so I'm trying to use ABS at 260°c for the dense area.

The problem I'm having is that the LW-PLA expansion means I'm getting a lot of strings of material when the head travels. Retraction may not work correctly if the filament expands to fill the gap created during retraction. I think there's also something going on during filament change so the tip formation routine is not working correctly. I've used PLA settings as a starting point.

Does anyone have any help with settings for this material? I'm using Prusa Slicer.

Many thanks

Jason
