MMU2S upgrade, hope this works...

I was a bit surprised at the amount of additional real estate required for the spools and buffer. Not wanting to build another cabinet I came up with this. Appreciate any comments if anyone sees a problem

The buffer is mounted on the back wall, filament feeds from the back of two shelves placed back to back. No kinks so I think it will work ok, we’ll see. If it works then I just need to do some white management and add some lights to the lower section.

I’m waiting for some wires for the extruder mod that we’re not included in the kit, annoying, been waiting since October for the kit. Finally arrives then missing parts. Support response was great, I contacted last Thursday, DHL says the part will be here tomorrow.

I think you'll want the buffer to be better accessible. Have you tried threading the filament through it and up to the MMU?

In my case, the setup is similar, but with swapped roles - the filament in a box below the printer box. I plan on discarding the Prusa buffer and simply keep some plexi sheets between the feedthroughs for the 5 spools (with some slightly loger PTFE tubes running all the way from the MMU to the fialment compartment).

P.S. Yes, this is very much WIP - I'm currently printing the parts I need to complete this, and the PTFE will be untangled 😀

Good point Marcus. WIP, just like you.

But, loading filament is not so difficult since the buffer simply sits on a shelf, not secured, and is relatively easy to move forward for loading. It allows me to use my existing enclosure while designing a new one. I do a lot of woodworking in my shop so my printer has to be in an enclosure to minimize dust.

Well, all is working, even the shared spool mash up. And bungee cord.

We’ll do a few prints then come up with something sexier. Or not, if everything works.
