I don’t have any info. on Prusa’s plans but FYI the they are not taking t any new orders for the MMU2s right now so you will unfortunately have to wait a while anyway 😔

Did Prusa send you a free upgrade?

@towlerg

They send me coupon I think, so I bought some spare parts and later on (after 2 months) a new MK3S so they make great deal 😀

Your guess is as good as mine.

I presume they don’t have capacity what with producing the MK3s, mini and face masks.

I ordered the MMU back on April 11th, lead time was 5-6 weeks, but just before they stopped taking orders.  It's the end of May and I just received notice they're shipping it.

I was hoping there was an upgrade in the pipeline, but if there is it looks like I'm not getting it.  Oh well.

On the bright side, I'm learning a lot about the MK3S.  Gives me confidence I can get the MMU to behave.  My problem is: I don't really need the MMU yet.  Meaning I haven't come across a design idea that demands it yet.  Do I assemble it and start using it even though it's a PIA?  Or do I wait, learn more about printing stand-alone, since this is my first printer and I just built it 3 weeks ago?

I believe you can use the MMU in “single filament mode”. I think I’d fit it. Seems a waste not to if you have it!

It also changes what room you need a round the printer so with it fitted sooner you can make sure wherever you’re putting your printer it’ll fit. Be a shame to say, build an enclosure to then later realise you need to redo it.

Good point on the space planning.  I have a basic plan on the way I want to configure everything but I'll need a 5x spool holder first.  I should start designing and printing the pieces at least.  I just got my top spool holder designed the way I like it, but I will use the same concept on my under-bench 5x design.

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/31837-spool-holder-low-resistance-top-mount

Hard to tell in the pic, but that's a tall 4ft workbench.  My plan is to have 5x cradles underneath the front edge of the bench. The filament will go back behind the printer then up to the MMU.  The changeover slack can just droop to the ground.  Other than potentially creating a jungle-jim for my cats, it seems like a solid plan.

I believe it comes with 5 spool holders that look good. Smooth rods in bearings.

But I don't have room for them behind the printer.  The under counter config would have the spools lined up directly under the bench for easy changeover, plus the slack can droop down.  I don't have space on top of the bench for 5 spools plus the buffer box.  I really won't have enough space on the bench when my Mini arrives.
