Filament tips seem to always take the same (weird) shape, anyone know what it is?

Hi all,

My filament tips do not have any strings (there are the odd few that do, but quite rarely as you will see from the photo) but the tips do have an odd shape to them. It seems they form a bump on one side. Does anyone have an idea why this could be happening? Any tips?

Edit: (please see the photo)

To point to what I am talking about more, see this second image where I highlight the shape I am referring to.

Edit: Spelling

I would assume that's the part of the filament that's been melted and has expanded to fill the exact diameter of the extruder's interior. It's off-center because the filament is also not held in the exact center — it's generally curved as it comes off the spool, so it's going to try to curve in the path from the drive gears to the nozzle, too.

I get similar tips, with and without strings.

Okay, that makes sense. Do those sorts of tips cause you any problems? I'm having loading problems that seem to occur more frequently when the tips come out looking like that.

In my experience, unloading problems are accompanied by small, squiggly tips, not these thick ones.

I'm actually having loading problems, not unloading problems

I get those tips when I do single filament prints, i.e. it doesn't shape the tip by extruding on the purge tower.
