Rpi3 wifi timeout, also Splashtop

I think my rpi3 (octoprint) wifi is timing out. The only vid i have seen to fix it has an "exit 0" command at the end of the file (sudo nano /etc/rc.local) that needs modifying. My similar file has no exit command at the end. My file's last line is "fi".

Need I worry? How have others turned off the WiFi power management feature?

Also, after getting frustrated with win remote connect, astroprint cloud, and spaghetti detector, I am leaning toward spending 16 USD for splashtop. All I want to do is monitor via logitech c920 and abort, if necessary, from outside my home network. Most everything is working fine - WHEN I am on my home network (except Win Remote Connect).

Thoughts on splashtop or alternatives? I'm not savvy enough to do port forwarding, and I have spent way too much time trying to figure it out.

Thanks.

I use Teamviewer to control Octoprint or Raspi 3B+ remotely.

Karl -

Is your octoprint running on your laptop/pc, and the Teamviewer (installed on your pc/laptop) simply works like a mouse on your remote screen, or did you install TeamV onto your Rpi3 board?

Oops, now I see a free version.

And I guess from your first link, you are remoting into a Linux machine.

@bob-h9

I'm running Teamviewer since many years for free, on Android, Windows and since over a year also on the Raspi. I installed Teamviewer on the raspi and on my android cellphone and control octoprint with it. It's totally free and working without any issues.

Yes,yes. That sounds like what I want to do.

I can probably get TeamV and my windows laptop, and on android phone. Then run octo on my laptop, and remote in from the phone, over the internet, not on my home WiFi network. I will be seeing octo on the laptop screen. Octo will be running on the Rpi3 board, yes?

The teal trick will be to install TeamV on the Rpi3. That is what I don't understand. What type of interface/gui is then seen on the phone. Not the laptop screen. The android is accessing the Rpi3 directly, not going through the windows laptop?

I guess I'll have to search deeper. I have seen a vid on installing TV onto Rpi3, but don't understand how it then connects with octo.

The issue I have with Teamviewer is that you need to login to their server (at least up till a few versions ago). I use TightVNC (pick your own flavor of VNC) it's quick and doesn't need an internet connection.

@bob-h9

I connected a 7 inch touchscreen to the Raspi with GUI, running Octoprint and Chromium. With Teamviewer I establish a connection from Android or another PC or Laptop with Internet connection to the Raspi GUI.
