RE: Power supply quick disconnect for Lack Enclosure? Has anyone done this

Just a note: the C20 socket Einbau-Gerätestecker 24V_16A is NOT DC rated.  The GS21 is DC rated, but only 8.8 A ...  you need to ignore the max power due to other limitations: so the max current is the spec to follow: https://ch.schurter.com/en/datasheet/typ_GS21.pdf .

@tim-m30

thank you for the note, you are right.

I think Direct current and alternating current must be considered for switches. I have tested the device plug with 30V and 20A (1500watts DC power supply) for a few hours -> this did not impress him. My printer did more than 2000 hours, the plugs are still like new.

It's a lifetime issue: as heat oxidizes the contacts and arcing as the plug is removed, DC resistance increases over time and the connector will eventually fail. For this application? It will probably work well enough for the practical life of the printer.

Resistance of aged and oxidized tin plate is fine for 120v and higher where the electrons can jump the boundary layers, but gets marginal at 24v and less.  So an occasional unplug/plug cycle will help keep contacts clean; or even add some dielectric grease.

+1 for Anderson Power Pole connectors.  They come in multiple colors, can handle up to 40 amps, are "lockable" so they won't come apart but unlock easily. are unisex but keyed and are a big favorite for amateur radio operators for everything power supplies to antennas.  The one downside is that you really need the crimp tool and it is not cheap!

If we are still talking about XT60H connectors - they are gold plated. I don't expect the plating to ever wear through in normal use.

And this is for the DC side. Would anyone actually unplug the printer in the middle of a print? I would turn it off first... No arcing.

Caig DeOxit - I became a believer after it stopped antiseptic cleaners rapidly ruining slide contacts on videoscopes. One spray and wipe and the contacts stayed in good shape. No more critical video signal loss at a very bad time to lose visual. I keep both the spray and brush bottle in stock. A little bit lasts a long time.

A little sandpaper can help with this.

Sand paper is NOT an answer to oxides. They remove way too much of the plating that you really want to keep.

And my post was dealing with the high voltage high power connectors C20 and G21.  Not the XT connectors.

As for the Xt connectors, it is often fun to investigate the gold layer to see just how thin it is, and check to see if the seller has actually tested insertion cycles, and how many cycles it takes to remove the gold completely.  Those gold plated square pins you see around? Typical life is 11 cycles (that's right: eleven, last time I checked).

Not worried about it.  I have unplugged mine at least 30 and they still work fine.  If they start acting up, I will replace them.  Thanks for the heads up.

I rarely buy from hobby king because of a similar finding.

I'm using since many years (1990 until now) the C20 also on my 4-axis CNC milling machine (24VDC). No oxidation and no explosions.

Only plug the connector when power is off (this is the normal case).

If anybody knows a better solution please let me know (pictures or link - i think that was the original question).

Thank you!

I received my XT60H connectors today, from the link above. Yay Amazon!

From what I can tell - they are both authentic Amass  and an incredible value. I checked all the write-ups on fakes.

They have sharp letters, registered symbol, rounded male tips, very firm connection, holes not bored through, Great, even gold plating.

and the female receptacle is even cross drilled at the bottom to let air out.

I checked them under an inspection microscope - and the are the prettiest connectors I have ever seen... Had no idea I had a connector hangup.

I may buy another 10 - just because...

Hello,

I found this design that might add a cool quick disconnect XT60 + panic connector cable output to the rear short rail of the MK3s. It would be ideal to have 2 XT60s but my CAD skills are not enough to modify it.

This is what I was looking for but can anyone share how they are mounting the power supply both on the printer and the enclosure? Thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread but there is good info in here.

What do you guys think about something like this? Should I be worried about current draw or amperage ratings?

that is a monster size connector, it should be ok to handle any current that the extruder assembly needs, but where are you going to put the connector?

RE:

These connectors (XT30, XT60, XT90...) are used in model sports and are designed for high currents, so they are suitable for mounting the power supply outside the enclosure:
