I’ve been looking at marlin today to and the einsy is definitely supported now, I’ve set marlin up a few times but I’m no expert.

I’d be really interested to see how marlin performs over prusa firmware.

I know some people in my other groups use the TMC drivers on a Ramps and are getting really good prints.

Right now I’d rather lose features and gain print quality

Btw, the MK3 has 280 E steps with the 1/32 microstepping, and the MK2 had an about 161.30 steps value (uncalibrated) with 1/16 microstepping.
So if you go by logic here, the MK3 has +120 more E steps/unit, but only because of microstepping.

devilhunter, very nice builds! Why build one when you can build two for twice the price 😀

JFYI I was running through the firmware code the other day trying to understand how it works and noticed that in the early MK3 firmware the extruder motor was set to 64 micro-stepping. It was reduced to 32 steps without any explanation in the code.

I printed this today after managing to get Marin running on my mk3, it’s far from a perfect set up but I just wanted one print and as you can see it’s a bit rough and ready but there extrusion problem is still there 🙁

Thanks for trying this out!

Dang it, what gives?
We've narrowed it down to the Firmware on the MK3, and the MK2.5 update now has this, too. And now Marlin?

It seems like we are all in agreement that the culprit is most likely the firmware still, given the results of our various and independent tests, allowing us to rule out possible culprits with greater confidence than if it were just one of us. So far it seems like the firmware is the only possible remaining culprit but I think there is another possible culprit still, the Mk52 heat bed. Although I am sceptical of this possibility, it remains a possible culprit that cannot be ruled out (yet)....not until a test that can rule it out completely is performed or the flaw in the firmware is found.

The only way to rule this out

I'm wondering if this is a stepper driver related issue. I'm tempted to try the mk3 extruder on a RAMPS setup with regular old drivers to see what impact that would have on print quality. I guess that I'll see soon enough - working on a i3 Bear with an Einsy (and I have some bondtech gears) while I wait for my mk3.

I've pushed my 320mm max build height for a test print yesterday, and today i wake up with a giant vase on the print bed.
(see pics, also the left Vase is from the MK2, max height, 200mm. Right one is the expensive MK3 clone, with 320mm height.)

The vase might look good from further away, but if you get closer, it's kinda super ugly.
Lots of small misaligned layers, some uneven, and moire pattern all over it. Now i saw the moire pattern on my test prints, too.
Completely different hardware and extruder, just MK3 board and MK3 software.

Worst vase i ever printed, with a printer that has the most top-notch hardware i could find. Sigh.

Inconsistent extrusion + non-fadeout mesh bed leveling = worst vase mode ever.
(Z axis moves from side to side also in vase mode)

btw, made a ticket about that: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/638

These are both Printers again.
(I'm currently messing around with Spartan's hotend)

Might I ask what fan adapter you are using for the Noctua with the S+E extruder assembly? Thanks!

Im also trying to build a clone. I'm not being able to find parts like the PSU holders M3nE. Do you have a BOM or something I can use?

I don’t understand how you gather this is a software issue based on your post lol.

1. You have a super rigid build, more rigid than stock MK3.

2. You have an aftermarket extruder, at least on one machine.

3. You have a 0.9 degree extruder motor, which many people say helps with the extrusion issue. Skelestruder also increases step resolution using a 1.8 to 980 steps.

If you had a stock MK3, with different software on it, that’s understandable. But you have a lot of custom hardware, a lot of which is somewhat proven to help with the extrusion issue.

So...I just don’t understand this post....

Are your printers still printing?
