Filament dryer using old Mk2S heat bed?

I have a spare Mk2S heat bed collecting dust after I upgraded to the Mk2.5, and I've been thinking about making a filament drying box using that as the heater.

What I'm thinking so far:

  • Arduino Nano with heat bed mosfet board as a controller

  • Acrylic viewing window (I have some left over from another project)

  • 3D printed frame (probably eSun ePC) in two shells: outer shell -> ventilated air gap -> inner shell

  • A PC fan or two for air recirculation
  • I figure mimicking the way the heat bed works on the printer will be good enough to heat the filament to the right temperature. Any ideas or safety concerns I should take into account?

tbh, even a 30$ dehydrator on amazon would serve you better here. I'm not sure how well it would hold temperature under sustained airflow.

Cheap idea would be putting the heatbed into an ikea box with lid and place the filament on it. why not
