added a silicone sheet under the Y axis.

Hello,

To reduce noise I added a silicone sheet under the Y-axis. Which works fine.

Only now the heated bed can store a lot more heat. So It takes a lot longer to heat the bed to the desired temperature.

I was wondering if this has any negative effect on the print quality that there is a lot more heat stored in the heated plate?

How did you put something under an axis?  Do you mean you used some silicone rubber to isolate the Y motor from the frame?  Can't see how that could change how the bed heats.  Can you send a picture?  Your description is puzzling.

I put the sheet under the heatbed in the void where the spacer are. this void act like resonance box .

I am not understanding how adding a silicone insulation sheet under the heat bed results in taking longer to heat up.

Would have thought the opposite would have happened.

Considered this for my mk3, but its not really that slow heating up, so if its not broken.....

If the silicone sheet is in direct contact with the bottom of the heatbed, then the overall thermal mass is higher so it takes longer for the combined mass to change temperature. This extends heat-up time and cool-down time.

Perhaps a better way here is to use a cork board instead of a silicone sheet - the thermal conductivity of the cork is far lower and has less mass so won't affect heat-up-time or y-axis acceleration performance much yet can provide some vibration absorption. It has the added benefit that in cool/drafty environments, it can elongate cool-down time since it acts as a great insulator (think cork-board flooring in basements). With such insulation, you may see a slight decrease in sustained power consumption especially when printing ABS and similar filaments where ~90°C+ is needed for the heatbed

I understand that increasing the mass of the heat bed with a heat conductor would increase heating up time, however, as silicone is normally a rather efficient heat insulator (Hence its use for heat socks for Print Heads) I was finding it difficult to understand how this would have a negative impact on heating time. 

Cannot see what the benefit of this would be TBH.

Completely agree that cork is far superior for this purpose, I comsidered adding some under my heat bed, but more for energy saving reasons.

Or if you want to reduce noise, place on a solid base like granite, modify the Y motor mount and as Dan says use squash ball feet.

Printer on the paver.  Paver on the hemi pads. 

$25.  Almost bizarre how well it works. 

(Don't be a dingle berry by putting additional pads between the printer and the paver)
