Just FYI. If you’re printing different colors on different layers, you don’t need this profile. Just click the + sign button on the layer bar in the preview in Slicer, and it will automatically insert an M600 filament change command for you. You can do this mutiple times.
This profile is useful if you want to print multiple colors within the same layers.

True but as far as text is concerned a poor substitute.

It as not in different layer. It is flushed inside white layers.

Thanks a million for the info.

Sorry I misunderstood. I'll have a play with that.

I realy don't understand this, could someone elaborate. I can only see how to set the colour of the whole layer.

Did you read my blog entry on this (link is in the 1st post in this thread..)
especially the section "Slicing a multicolor object"
That explains how to use it ....
or load the 3mf file i posted a bit above into slic3r to see a fully pre-configured example.

Hello Rainer,

I wanted to share this with you since you had a great part in this. So big thank you!

I completed my first real multi-color early this week. It was a very hectic exercise, but 40 filament changes or so later I got this.

Rainer, as you suggested, I did not use the wipe tower because a) I did not have enough space to begin with and b) it isn't really necessary if you have mastered the technique.

BTW, this is a piece of "art" that was inspired by traditional Swiss cardboard cutting from the lovely town of Küssnacht. I'll sharing this on my Instagram account later today as well.

Oh dear, I've just reread this part of the thread and I realize I have completely misunderstood. Somehow I got the idea that it was being proposed that it was possible to achieve the results as yours just using the colour change option in the slicer. Sorry for spoiling your thread.

Hello,

I am hoping to keep this thread alive and wanted to share with you my latest work. It took longer than I had anticipated, and the print time in particular is a bit of a show-stopper. Nevertheless here it is:

Did I mention the manual color swaps nearly killed me?

Is it not possible to make this thread a sticky or an entry in a Wiki. As a total noob (don't even have a printer yet) I think this thread and the technique it describes is of great import. Just the option to produce panels with lettering (not indented and thus a dirt trap) opens all kinds of possibilities.

Not sure this forum has the ability to make sticky threads. There are a lot of very interesting forum posts out there which are getting lost. Even the internal search function is very limited. I have best success with google search to find something in this forum

Often linked posts:

Has anyone tested the multi-colour profile on MK3S? I'd love to have the ability to achieve this.

One area that'd actually be interesting is to use this to be able to use water-soluble for supports when connecting to the model. Has anyone tried this?

@mzaferyahsi

It should work fine with the MK3S.. the difference between MK3 and MK3S is not relevant for this profile..
i have not experimented with water soluble myself, i guess it depends on trying to achieve a minimum number of layers where there are multiple materials, as otherwise it gets to much work with too many manual filament changes..

Thank you for your quick reply @rainer-s. I'll try to give it a go asap and investigate the water-soluble part.

This actually works for any printer I believe. I tested Prusa Slicer and the multi-material setup on an Ender 3, and it works great! No issues at all.
