Raspberry Pi/OctoPrint - Monitoring Only?

Hello all,

I'm looking to get my a dad a Raspberry Pi 3 B for his Mk3. He's done a helluva lot of printing in the past 8 months (we checked the amount yesterday for the first time, and he's at about 106 days), and I'm looking to get him this as an upgrade. However, he's pretty set in doing what he knows works, so could see him still wanting to launch the jobs off his SD card.

My question: When a Raspberry Pi is installed, can you connect into it and use it for only monitoring (viewing temperatures, viewing camera, optionally running timelapses)? What about stopping prints that have been initiated from the SD card?

Just wanting to make sure that when it's connected to the board it doesn't force all management over OctoPrint.

Thanks

Yes, this will work.

I'm using my octoPi for monitoring only too.

Plugins like Octolapse work by injecting extruder move commands so I doubt if those would work with SD prints.

And I suspect your dad might get hooked by the convenience of sending print files to the Pi.

Oh, I'm 95% certain he will 🙂 I'd just need to convince him to install it (or allow me to do it for him) with the allure of a camera while still being able to use it the same way.

You should be able to open a browser on the desktop of the Octopi and point it to localhost and pull up the octoprint web page.
