Printing via Wifi

Hi!

Perhaps I will install a Pi Zero WH with Octoprint...
But my prints take 5h and more, that can be a problem.

With data transfer/printing via wifi, the PC must be running during all the printing time?
Or does Octoprint sends the data to the printer and that's it?

Do I have to use Octoprint or can I use Prusaslicer to send the gcode, via Wifi?
If yes Computer must be running / be connected with the MK3 during the print?

My MK3S and MMU are still on the way to home.
Thanks very much!

Hello and welcome in Prusaforum!

You have to send your gcode from PrusaSlicer over Wlan to the Pi. After that you can shut down your pc. The Pi/Octoprintserver sends the gcode to the printer over USB or GPIO connection. The Pi must remain switched on, otherwise 3D printing will be interrupted.

I want to use GPIO.

Perfect, I will get a Pi zero WH and install it during the assembly when the printer arrives.

The frame for the pi zero is already printed 🙂
Thank you!

RE: Printing via Wifi

Please note that the developer of OctoPrint specifically recommends against using a RPi Zero to run OctoPrint. A number of users here have reported everything from "works OK with no video" to "unusable" results. The Prusa docs are old for the most part. I recommend doing some more research before committing to anything.

Thanks! ... an important info.

My printer room is next to my office, so I don't need a cam. But I need a device with good wifi transfer rate.
I have to ressearch what pi has best wifi and that this one can be used with the MK3 / fits in the case.
Thanks!
