Next Review / Test: Steel Sheet Beds

There are a number of spring steel sheets wyou can buy aftermarket to add to you printer.

I have a few that I recently purchased from China and will be posting photos. I will post a photo of each as I test them. They range in price from $11 to $25. Some look like copies of the Prusa bed.

Re: Next Review / Test: Steel Sheet Beds

Every bare sheet I've found costs nearly as much as a genuine Prusa with double-sided PEI already applied. I've got 2 of the Prusa sheets, but would like a cheap blank just to experiment with. BuildTak is as close as I've found at $25.

Found and ordered on Aliexpress:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Reprap-i3-Mk3-Mk52-Spring-Steel-Sheet-Heat-Bed-Platform-3D-Printer-Printing-Buildplate-For-Prusa/32948155660.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3da24c4d8pAqBT

Combined with this print surface from the same vendor
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pc-Prusa-i3-MK3-MK52-Sheet-Heat-Bed-Platform-3D-Printer-Buildplate-Black-Sticker-Sheet-For/32901822760.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3da24c4d8pAqBT

it comes to nearly the same cost as an original Prusa flex sheet, but I want to have a BuiltTak surface for Nylon and Polycarbonate

Waiting for whipment, will report

It looks like they just don't want you to print the letter "J"? Anything else should be ok. Not sure what the Chinese have against the letter J? 😯

Links? I found BuildTak and the Aliexpress link you provided before, but I'm curious about the others. I haven't had much luck searching.

Edit: Ah, looks like they're all on Alixpress! I didn't have the names before, so never got hits. They're pretty blatant copies. How is the quality on the cheap ones? Are they truly flex steel?

Re: Next Review / Test: Steel Sheet Beds

I will start reviewing them this week with a link to each product. I have to clean one. I put a piece fo blue PEI on it and need to remove the adhesive.

The blue PEI was too "sticky" and I could not remove the print from it. It ripped. The bed if fine but I need to remove the adhesive and add another surface.

This appears to be related to drug use, a warning not to have a "J" when using these advanced technologies, which surely is good advice! 😎

Ok, I have found basically 3 Chinese made products. It took me a little time to find them with some creative searching.

Re: Next Review / Test: Steel Sheet Beds

The first bed I purchased to test was the Energetic which is a plain steel bed. I am going to put prusa PEI on it to test once I get my next order.

The FYSETC spring steel sheet. You can buy them with PEI and without. The key is searching Aliexpress and looking for the lowest price and free shipping.

  • I paid about $19 but recently foudn them significantly cheaper. Keep searching because black friday is coming.

Blurolls sprign steel. I have 3 of these. I bought 2 for $12 a piece and they have a mirror like finish. I bought another and it was $14.86.

These are very similar to the next bed I bought, but without lines.
