Mounting on a sand bag?

So, I'm wondering how to improve the performance of my excellent MK3S. I'd like to kill some noise and resonance with same or better print quality. I've seen concrete/granite pavers being recommended, which makes sense. I'm wondering if using a sand bag instead would *absorb* the forces - much like a recoilless hammer - instead of bouncing like rubber. I would think this should lead to improved printing quality and less resonance.

Has anyone tried mounting their Prusa on a bag of sand? Is there anything I should be aware of before trying, apart from not breaking the sealed, durable bag? 🙂

You might be concerned about facing the wrath of your wife, depending on where your printer is located 🙂

I'd have concerns about the sand settling over time leading to skew in the frame components... Better something solid than "fluid-like" or compact-able the way sand is.

I was thinking about either adding a thin paver on top of the sand bag (it would obviously need to be smaller than the bag in order for the sand to absorb horizontal forces) but that was mostly to protect the cables running under the frame and the anodization. I’m not too worried about the sand settling due to the many horizontal moves - had the shocks been mostly vertical, I would have been worried 🙂

I’ll let you know how it goes once I find a nice looking sand bag (unless others beat me to it...)

Thanks for your input 🙂
