Linear Bearings Machifit MGN12H

I am since 2 weeks a proud owner of a mark 3s, I bought the kit and mounted it in less than 5 hours, I think the bearings even after alligning with a micro tool, the bed makes a lot of noise, I am preparing Linear Wagon bearings and rail type Machifit MGN12H Linear Rail Guide + Linear Sliding Guide Block

Since I couldn't find this in the enormous amount of wishes in the topic, I will design this myself. Or does anyone has a design for that already?

After a successful installation I will also change the X and Z axes accordingly for better and quitter printing. 💡

Did you lubricate the bearings when you built your printer? They are shipping with a preservative oil, not a lubricant oil. Cleaning the bearings and then packing them with Lithium or Synthetic grease is highly recommended.

I would be interested to see what you come up with. I can see the benefit of this on the X and Y axis but I don't believe the Z axis would gain anything.

Yes Tim I did clean and grease it, Thanks for the sugestion. It didn't work out. I can see the problem lies in the amount of lines off balls it scrapes awfully. I loaned 3 bearings from our workshop with 6 lines of balls that did run very smoothly it saved around 20Db. However I am still waiting the shipment for the Machifit. Cuz these from the workshop will cost 120 euro each, that's too much for me.

@Richard, I will Post again when I have installed the Machifit Bearings.

I am very interested in what you end up doing. I'd like to swap over to linear rails for at least the Y-Axis (I think the X may be too much work), but I want to see what someone else has done, first.

For my Y-Axis, I went with 6 row bearings from Misumi - made a sleeve carrier for them - and am very happy with the change. I didn't hear much of a noise change, but the rail motions felt much smoother and my drive currents dropped measurably.

Also, Prusa recommends setting the bearing so that only one row carries the load, which seems convoluted, I set my X-bearings so that two rows carry and share the load. That also seems to help wear.

I just ordered 10 misumi from their Michigan warehouse at $10 each. I packed my original bearings with Superlube after cleaning them when I assembled my MK3, but the Y axis got scored after 2 months of 24/7 printing. I would love to know why a company like Prusa whom prides itself on its quality and support would not include Misumi bearings with their kit. With their millions of dollars, i am sure they can buy a HUGE bulk order of misumi or SKF bearings and ship them with the kit?

The bearings that ship with the kit are not horrible, but they are not up to the high standards of the rest of the kit in my humble opinion.

I will post results next week when i assemble another bear upgrade but this time with misumi bearings.

Hi Tim,

Nice I just had a look at the Misumi bearings, can you send me a link with the ones you bought , I would appreciate that very much, $10 each is not bad.

I am still waiting for the shipment 🙁

LMU8 for X and Z-Axis.
LMK8 for Y-Axis

Printed these in PETG, but require a bit of fiddling based on shrinkage and calibration. I can't remember if I scaled 1.005 or 1.010. I made mine tight enough these were press fit.

Next time around I may change all bearings to LMK. Though I may redesign the bushing holders and try to fit the Y-Axis with LMKW8.

😥 Still Waiting, takes a very long time to ship them , probably delivered by feet. Can't wait to receive them, than find the time to install them 🙄

I Do like the Prusa Qulity very much, no urgent need to change the bearings , but if they add up to quality more I would be very pleased.

richard,

I agree, I will first do the Y axis , next the X, Only problem is I am looking for someone who has 3d files that I can do some rework on to make the Rail fit adequately.
