slic3r MK2 broken after plater >> DLP projector?

I've had my Prusa i3 mk2s for about a week now. I've sliced and printed numerous things, but last night Prusa3D Slic3r MK2 started to become unresponsive. I'm using windows 10.

Before it would take about a second to load up a simple object. Now as soon as I open the program it says it's not responding. I wait a few minutes and it lets me add an object to be sliced, but it takes a long time to appear. If I try and click on anything it hangs again.

I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the Prusa drivers, but no luck there. Tried running an earlier version and I still had the same problems.

It all started messing up after I clicked on "dlp projector" from the plater drop down menu in Prusa3D slic3r MK2 and I couldn't get out of it. I tried hitting alt and F4 (... just realized f4 makes my computer go to sleep on my wireless keyboard) When I pressed the power button to turn my computer on again, my wireless and laptop keyboards were unresponsive. I turned my computer off for a few minutes and when I turned it back on, I could type again. But that's when I started having problems with the Prusa slicer.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers package from my control panel, uninstalling the drivers from devices manager... and deleting the Prusa folder in program files.Even after reinstalling everything, it still doesn't work as it did before. Is there anything else I'm missing getting rid of before reinstalling?

Is there anything I can do to get it working like it was before?

If I open up task manager when it looks like the slicer is trying to do something, it's using 0% CPU, about 100MB of memory, and 0% Disk ... Does that seem weird?

Is there any way to get rid of all traces of the Prusa slicer and then install it from scratch?

I think this is a Windows 10 update issue, which messed up the Intel HD graphics GPU drivers, or whathever bad happened.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/issues/233

We recommend to run the Intel driver search utility and to follow its advice to update the graphics driver.

hmmmm.... I tried updating the driver for the graphics card (Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000), but still no luck. Then I updated windows further to see if that would help, but it didn't either.

I thought it might have something to do with the software I was using with my older printer (Repetier Host), so I uninstalled that as well as Cura... but still it's going super slow and constantly says it's not responding.

You may try to remove the slic3r settings from
"C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r" or
"C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\Slic3r"

and then to download the slic3r from the release pages:
https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/releases

You may try to grab various versions from there: The newest one, the older releases, alphas... Please extract them somewhere (desktop will do) and try to run them directly. The slic3r wil then guide you through a setup wizard, which will fill the configs in one of the aforementioned folders.

I am curious, whether some older versions will work for you. The one laptop of a customer, who visited our site for training, had such issue with any Slic3r build we rolled out of the house, so I suppose it is really a graphics driver issue. I would be happy to provide some workaround, but without having a computer with this particular issue on hand it is quite difficult.

Would you please manage to go to menu Help -> System Info and post the information generated by the Slic3r System info here?

Also one of our Czech users used the update tool from Intel
http://www.intel.eu/content/www/eu/en/support/detect.html

stating that the update did not work for him for the first time. This is a lightly corrected automatic translation of his message:

I let the update tool to scan your PC and he found outdated driver chip set and outdated graphics card driver. I let the tool to update it (edit: what to update? Thanks Intel for the confusion). First, the Intel udpate utility updated the driver chip set and wanted to restart (edit: What is the "update of a chip set?). Here I made a mistake and I did not allow restart. The tool then proceeded to install the graphics card. Then I let the tool do a reboot. After starting slicer Slicer still did not work (or slowly). So I re-ran the utility. This time the tool found only outdated driver chip set. So I let the tool to install and after restart the Slic3r works as fast as before.

So if the writeup helps you somehow, please let us know.

Re: slic3r MK2 broken after plater >> DLP projector?

Maybe I made some sense of the posting of our Czech user.

The intel updater tool
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

scans your computer and detects all Intel hardware. It then installs the INF files for each of the Intel hardware, which informs the operating system of the particular hardware devices installed. Before the automatic Intel updater tool there was another tool, which did exactly that:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005835.html

After the INF files are updated, the graphics drivers should be updated. If the 1st step is skipped, a wrong driver may be installed for your computer.

Frankly, I cannot say I understand it throughly, it seems like the Intel updater tool is in a need of improvement as it allows the user to skip and shuffle the installation steps, which must not be skipped or shuffled.

It's working again! Thank you very much for your help.

I downloaded and ran the intel driver update program again. This time it acted as an uninstaller. I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it. I think I made a weird mistake when I used the program the first time.

First time, I downloaded and installed the updated graphics drivers. When it was finished it required rebooting the computer. But, it told me I had a program open (the intel driver update finder thing), so I closed the program and then manually reboot my computer.

Second time, ran the intel updater program. downloaded and installed the driver updates. Then I told it to reboot right away even though the same message popped up saying that another program was running.

when I started up again, I went into Prusa3D slicer MK2 and everything worked at the regular speed.

Make sure you don't have windows set to automatically update your drivers, otherwise (at least for me) slicer will get messed up again when it decides it wants to overwrite the driver that works.
