Texture on Prusa printed parts

Hey all,

I have seen videos of the parts being printed for Prusa printers. Most of them show that they are using the MK2 on the MK42 bed with the PEI sheet. I noticed that the parts on my MK2 have a texture on the side where the touched the bed. What causes this texture? My PEI sheet makes everything very smooth. I think it would help grip for ABS greatly. If I can find out what it is, i'll take 3 😉

Thanks,
Chris

You are not the first to notice this. It appears that PR are testing a different bed surface and will release details in due course.

Looks like Kydex texture to me- or something very similar.

So maybe it's the new magnetic bed that gives this surface texture?

Re: Texture on Prusa printed parts

the magnets are embedded in a smooth PCB Bed material with 9 mounting points instead of 6 on the mk42 or 4 on the original heated bed

the textured surface is PEI powder coated on both sides of spring steel alloy sheet, which is located by two steel pins in the hotbed and held firm by the 25 magnets in the heated bed

it appears to have a more robust surface than pei sheet as we are accustomed.
