Quieter printer - NEW FW

We have new firmware which makes the printer quieter A LOT!

Click Download ZIP and find the right HEX file.

1.75mm - https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-i3-Plus-1.75mm

3mm - https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-i3-Plus-3mm

Let me know how it works for you 🙂

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Tried it, hex file did not flash correctly using the firmware updater, so had to flash back to the old firmware.
Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, it works (flashed using Arduino).
And yes, is much, much less noisy...just curious, what is the change?

hannah.y: Make sure the hex file and firmware updater are on the same disk!

marco.p: I tweaked the current of the X and Y motors. They also should not heat as much 😉

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Steps i did: downloaded https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-i3-Plus-1.75mm/tree/master/Firmware/hex_files/Marlin1-0-3_RamboMini1-3_EN.hex
Opened firmware updater (on same drive, i only have 1)
Connected printer, turned on printer.
Pressed update on printer, it says updating, but fails later with the message:
avrdude.exe: AVR device initialized and ready to accept instructions Reading | ################################################## | 100% 0.01s avrdude.exe: Device signature = 0x1e9801 avrdude.exe: reading input file "\Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex" avrdude.exe: input file \Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex auto detected as raw binary avrdude.exe: writing flash (262144 bytes): Writing | ################################################## | 100% 37.37s avrdude.exe: 262144 bytes of flash written avrdude.exe: verifying flash memory against \Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex: avrdude.exe: load data flash data from input file \Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex: avrdude.exe: input file \Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex auto detected as raw binary avrdude.exe: input file \Program Files\Prusa3D\newRamboMini1-3_EN.hex contains 262144 bytes avrdude.exe: reading on-chip flash data: Reading | ################################################## | 100% 29.38s avrdude.exe: verifying ... avrdude.exe: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x3c000 0x74 != 0x30 avrdude.exe: verification error; content mismatch avrdude.exe done. Thank you.

I do have the RAMBO MINI 1.3A board i checked. But i did notice the hex file is around 10 times larger.

Thanks.

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Works like a CHARM! Thanks!

For anyone having issues, I followed these steps:

1. Download the 1.6.0 driver from here: http://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/

2. Go to the github URL from the original post. (Make sure you have a GitHub account. If you don't, sign up.)

3. Once you are logged in to GItHub, you can download the zip, which will be at the bottom right.

4. Unzip the 1.6.0 driver and open the Firmware Updater.

5. Unzip the GitHub firmware.

6. In the firmware updater, under "Choose .hex file to flash:" locate the "hex_folder" (inside the firmware you just downloaded) and then choose the hex that corresponds to your filament size/language/RAMBo.

7. If it's not already, connect the printer to your computer and then update.

8. Should take only a minute or so and then you're done.

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

One thing.
With the new firmware I printed Adalinda (PLA).
After 9 hours, doing the last layers, there's been a "shift" of both X and Y axis of about 3-4 mm (about 1 mm for X and 4-5 for Y)
Then the print ended "correctly (apart from the shift).
Can this be due by the new firmware?
(sorry I cannot post a picture of the print now, I'll do that this evening).

marco.p: can you post a pic? we already made a new version, which provides slightly more current to the motors. Today we are switching the rest of our farm to the new FW 🙂

Here the picture.
The print is perfect (PLA) apart for the "offset" of the mouth and the end of the wings.

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

jack.z thank you.
Installed without drama.
What happened to my noisy printer and what is this quiet thing that has replaced it?

Printed another Adalinda with the new (updated) firmware and the print is OK.

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Are the changes for the motors on github only in the hex files?
Because i can't find these changes in the FW files there.

Did you modified something here?
#define DEFAULT_PWM_MOTOR_CURRENT {1300, 1300, 1250}

Hello

This is an awesome update to the printer, I also put some floor padding underneath the printer and now the printer is quieter then my normal desktop printer. 😀

Thank You

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Hi from Haïti 🙂
just a small probleme with the updater from 1.6.1 package (no space in path error) , roll back to 1.6.0 package and flash without problem , installed 1.6.1 after that.
best regards

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

Hello i was wondering if you can upload the makefile for the Firmware. I am currently having an issue with my own self complied firmware using your source. Using the command Make.

Currently have the supplied makefile setup as
# This defined the board you are compiling for (see Configuration.h for the options)
HARDWARE_MOTHERBOARD ?= 301

# Arduino source install directory, and version number
ARDUINO_INSTALL_DIR ?= C:/Users/Shubo/Desktop/arduino-1.0.5-r2/
ARDUINO_VERSION ?= 105

# You can optionally set a path to the avr-gcc tools. Requires a trailing slash. (ex: /usr/local/avr-gcc/bin)
AVR_TOOLS_PATH ?= C:/Users/Shubo/Desktop/arduino-1.0.5-r2/hardware/tools/avr/bin/
.

But after uploading the complied Hex the lcd spews random text, So i uploaded the original 2.2.0.

EDIT EDIT
Nevermind i Fixed the issues just used Arduino 1.6.4 and install rambo addon.

Re: Quieter printer - NEW FW

I have tried both firmwares and havent seen any noticable difference in the sound. Although i think mine may be down to either a bearing lubrication issue or a tapering rod issue.
