PEI has lumps after removing printed objects from heatbed

I printed a 9 piece puzzle today with no problems, and removed the pieces with a putty knife with no sharp corners, as usual. All the pieces were stuck pretty tight, but popped loose when I hit them on the bottom edges/corners with the putty knife.

Upon removing the pieces, I saw that the PEI had lifted and formed bumps/hills at almost every corner of every piece. Now the bed is not perfectly flat. The bumps are all about 4-5mm in diameter.

I heated the bed and tried to smooth out the bumps by rubbing a cloth over them with a fair amount of finger pressure, but the bumps did not entirely go away.

Has anyone experienced this? Do I need a new PEI sheet? How can I prevent this from happening again?

I've only had my i3 kit less than a month.

I should have mentioned that the filament was Prusa PLA at 205 deg, bed at 55 deg, and I didn't see any issues with either temperature for the whole print (~9 hours).

😕 💡
there are several posts here, where people are concerned about it. for example this one.
the PEI sheet itself still is ok, but the marks/blisters/lumps are a thermal reaction of the 3M adhesive between heatbed and PEI.

➡ usually the "lumps" go away after some hours/days and several heating cycles, so no need to worry about it.

Thanks for the info. I've noticed the lumps have gone down considerably overnight. The sheet is almost flat again.

I found the same thing and have begun to let prints sit until cooled completely hoping to let everything stabilize. Seems to be ok.
