Back of power supply does not line up with corner piece

Hello,

I am on step 6 of section 7 (PSU & Heatbed assembly) of my new MK2S. The black plastic part at the bottom of the power supply does not line up with the black plastic part attached to the corner of the Y axis. The holes are misaligned by about 2 mm. My Y axis orange back corners are exactly 100 mm from the back of the aluminum frame. What should I do? Should I re-drill the holes in the plastic parts to be able to join them? Should I move the Y axis to make the holes align? If I adjust the Y axis, will I run into calibration problems later? The manual suggests that the 100 mm distance between the back corners and the frame is very important.

Thank you,
Ales

Re: Back of power supply does not line up with corner piece

Can you provide a picture of where on the orange corner you are measuring from? You're saying back corner and it needs to be measured from the face closest to the washers/frame.

My PSU mount was off a bit as well, but not as much as you are saying. If it is only 2mm and you are measuring from the correct location, you can add/subract the 2mm for your 100mm distance in order to line it up. I wouldn't try and force it to bend that much to get the holes aligned. Your Z axis then becomes out of square. The additional 2mm+/- to line it up shouldn't affect the calibration.

Also make sure the washers are in the correct positions. There's no washer between the corner piece and the PSU holder.

I finally took some photos. Hopefully I am correctly attaching them to my reply. Given that the screw that is supposed to go in the holes is 3 mm in diameter, I'd say that the misalignment is on the order of 1.0 to 1.5 mm.

Sorry about the caliper blocking the view between the black and orange printed parts. There is no washer between them. The sequence of parts on the threaded rod in the photo, from left to right, is as follows:

nut, washer, Z frame, washer, nut, nut, . . . , nut, washer, black part, orange part, washer, nut

I had to adjust that distance to get the holes aligned. You will likely discover that your y-axis is slightly askew. Even if it is perfect, not every part is, so adjust the nuts so the holes align. Make sure to adjust the other side too.

Re: Back of power supply does not line up with corner piece

I thought I would report back on the resolution of the issue. As suggested by ray.b2, I moved the entire Y carriage a little bit backward by loosening the nuts on both sides of the Z frame. The distance between the orange back corner parts and the Z frame is now 101.2 mm. This does not have any adverse effect on printing. The printer prints like a charm. The only consequence I have noticed is that during the 9-point calibration, the PINDA probe is not exactly centered in the little circles printed on the bed. It is still WITHIN each circle, however, just a bit more to one side than the other. The manual suggests that this is fine, and I can attest that it indeed is.

Best,
Ales
