Re: filament recommendations

One important question is: Where are you from?
I think you prefeer to order somewhere localy with low shipping costs and also short delivery times. 😉

I can't give you recommendations for any filament due to the fact that I'm too new to all of this. 🙂

Re: filament recommendations

hello thomas,
💡 when you like to print with pla or petg, i can highly recommend the filaments from herz (located in neuwied / germany).
quality is constant and pretty good 😛 , like the filaments of esun, extrudr or ice and way better than the cheap stuff you can get below 15€/kg.
they sell directly and thru ebay, shipping is very quick and they deliver good value for money. you can even pick up the filament directly @ neuwied... but this only makes sense if you are on the road in that area (A3) anyway because their prices (18.90€/kg PLA) include shipping as well.

➡ if you like i can send you the technical data for the herz-filaments.

i even tried their abs filament, but because i have no enclosure (at least: not now) and not much experience with it, i can neither recommend nor inadvise it.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

OK Jeff,

I ordered the sample pacckage for PLA thru eBay. Interesting, the eBay is 5 cents cheaper 😉

Can you send me the technical details ?

Re: filament recommendations

I ordered a spool of "Das Filament" PLA Filament for the first time two weeks ago and it prints like a charm. It is pretty cheap filament and prints very nicely. If you want more Information id reccomend you to watch Thomas Sanladerers Video about "Das Filament"

Re: filament recommendations

Just printed a sample with the "kirschrot PLA" from Herz :

Standard Prusa 0.2mm profile in Slic3r, material tends a little bit to oozing. But very smoot and regular print.

Have to remove some rests of supports later.

Flexible PLA from rigid.ink :

But be carefull, use an glue-stick, otherwise you will ruin your PEI-sheet ! This material glues like hell on the bed 😯

Re: filament recommendations

A really very soft material.

FilaFLex :

A lot of stringing and oozing :

Heattower, starts at 260°C at bottom, decreasing 5° on every stack :

So, best temperature is 235 to 240°. I use the standard Semiflex or FlexFill profile from slic3r and adapt the temperature to 240/240. Don't fotget to power on the fan (enable the 2 checkboxes). The gluestick is mandarory !!!

Re: filament recommendations

Give Cheapo PLA filament a try. You will be surprised and will be able to afford to print a lot more.

The days of bad filament are over... Filament is Filament now. at least for regular PLA. of course if you want some other properties then go for it.

Re: filament recommendations

I buy my PLA & PETG from "Das Filament" good price & qualtity. And they have XXL Spools with 2600g.
The Filament is spooled quite accurate so you don't have overlapping filament on the spool and does not "spring" form the Spool and tangles around your printer / Spoolholder.
If you look for Filaments i can recommmend the "Filaween" Seriees from Thomas Sanlanderer -> https://filaween.com/#/browse

Re: filament recommendations

I know "Filaween"-Tom isn't a big fan of BQ these days (I don't blame him, that was a shitty thing to do to Nils & him, but the BQ PLA is actually not too bad given its low price. It is rumored that "Basic PLA" in filaween might actually be BQ..)

I tried Rigid.Ink as well, it's great filament, but on 2 orders, the carrier managed to screw up delivery, so I gave up on ordering from the UK. Other than that, i really liked Rigid.Ink.

Yes, handling and shipping is not the cheapest from UK 🙁

Some other shops ship for free by ordering 2 or 3 rolls.

Re: filament recommendations

Printing Nylon is a nightmare ! 🙁

Nylon 12 and Nylon 12 Plus from rigid.ink :

Nylon 12 prints a way better, but not fine. The warping is extreme, it's only printable with fan off and big brim. On the other hand, fan off results in some smearing of the fine details and bad bridgeing.

Re: filament recommendations

BQ is not bad for the price, but the spools could be wound much better.
I've tried 6 different BQ colours and they print ok, but compared to a local store's own filament brand (RepRap.pt), they're not as good.
So, now I've shifted to the local brand (produced in Portugal) as they're only 20€/1kG PLA. They print better, fuse better and are wound much better. It's also nice to support local business.

I've also tried Colorfabb and it is really good. Today I printed with red translucent PLA. Pure candy color goodness. Also printed a Pop Buddha (Vader) with brassfill and it came out just perfect. I have a few more Colorfabb samples to test, but so far, I'm impressed.

To keep postage costs low, I try to get more friends to order with me. More spools ordered lower the postage costs.

Re: filament recommendations

I just purchase 4 -1kg rolls of Filament from MakerGeeks.com for $54.00 including shipping

I've never used purchased from makergeeks before but I have seen plenty of reviews on youtube of it so for that Price I had to jump the gun.
