Ethyl alcohol vs Isopropyl alcohol

Hello,

In order to clean the steel sheet (both the standard and the powder coated), can I use Ethyl alcohol?

Is Isopropyl alcohol better than Ethyl alcohol?

(I just run out of Isopropyl alcohol and I am trying to find a quick alternative)

I haven't used alcohol in a very long time, on my smooth pei sheet.

try it and let us know.  it might help some MMU users if they know they can drink the cleaner 😀

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

I recommend you ethyl alcohol. Ethyl Alcohol, or ethanol (C2H5OH), is the type used in the production of alcoholic beverages.  Alcohol, or ethanol, is the intoxicating agent found in beer, wine and liquor. I had to read a lot about alcohol when I suffered from alcoholism. https://addictionresource.com//drug-rehab/locator/ - if you want to read more about it.

At the moment, isopropyl is hard to come by because of the pandemic.

Have you heard from any at Prusa about using ethanol? Are you using it?  Any problems?

Thanks,

-Mike

I occasionally use denatured alcohol (hardware store, paint department) when isopropyl is not doing the job.  It works, for me, anyway, better at removing glue stick residue.

I don't know where you're from or what terminology you use in your area, but here in the States, 'denatured' alcohol is ethyl (grain) alcohol (yes, as in booze) which has been adulterated so it cannot be used as an intoxicant without a massive stomachache.

Denatured Alcohol has methanol added to it (lethal to  drink). This is due to USA Taxation of drinkable alcohol.

Methanol can paralyze the optic nerve, as in blind you, if not kill you.

And, this stuff is also available, if you know where to find it.  😉
