Don't Support Bridges option in Slic3r for Support Material

Looking for guidance from those with experience.. what are the pro's & con's of the "Don't Support Bridges" option when generating support material?

ie.. Why is this even an option? Why wouldn't you always want to support bridges? In what kinds of situations is it best to not support bridges when using support material in general?

thanks!

I turn support for bridges off when its small bridge that doesn't need any support, normally it will save time and material on the print.

For me it depends on the bridge. With the right settings it is fairly amazing how clean I can get the bridges without supports. Sometimes it is better with sometimes better without hence the option.
