There is one thing I dislike very much about the MK3.

The stock part fan shroud makes it impossible to see how the first layer is doing while printing it.

Everyone knows how important the first layer is. It's always a good idea to watch the printer for the first little while during a print to make sure the initial layer goes down correctly, but the fan's shroud makes it impossible to see a large area around the nozzle.

The only other 3D printer I've used before is the Monoprice Select Mini V2 and that one had great visibility as far as watching the print nozzle.

Anyone know of a quick and easy mod to fix this?

EDIT: I would also like to add... I've only had my MK3 for 2 days now, and so far I haven't had any issues with the first layer at all, but I'd still feel better if I just could easily watch the first layer go down. Other than this I'm loving the printer so far.

Actually... after all the hours my MK3 has been printing i've learned to just trust it xD

Even with my older printer i dont watch first layers anymore xD, i keep an eye on it but when everything is dialed in correctly no need to constantly check the first layer.

Haven't tried this but it might fit the bill.

I use an amcrest IP camera to remotely monitor my printer and surroundings (octoprint cam just for the print), and a wemo switch for emergency cutoff. The amcrest cam, when properly positioned and zoomed provides a great view of the first layer going down (it views from the side of the printer). I have found when watching in person, from the side at 90 degrees, and level with the heatbed is the best view of the print head.
