Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

These models are wonderful. I appreciate all your hard work, thanks!

I do have some questions, I used my MK3 to print (out of PETG) out the z axis parts you had modeled. I am questioning the accuracy of my printed parts...

I have done an XYZ calibration cube on my printer and it prints within all dimension within .15MM or less.. which is not too bad ( I think)

1) how accurate are the original Prusa parts?
2) how accurate are my parts with your deigns?
3) Does any of this matter? Will inaccurate parts from Prusa vs. inaccurate parts that I make, STILL make my printer better?

Is there a way to get a version of the files for us that aren't into Yin/Yang stuff? Love what you've done here just hoping for a non badged version before I can print.

He just posted the STEP files. You should be able to edit those just fine to make any changes. Fusion 360 is a pretty quick/free option.

One suggestion is to print out the parts and then look. The top bracket parts above are (I believe) identical to the original Prusa (at least in major outline). If you print them, they match the original parts in size, and your holes look clean, you should be good to go.

I printed them out and in my case stuck with the original Prusa parts (z-axis). My parts had a bit of stringing that was preventing the smooth rod from seating well in the top, and once that was taken care of the hole felt a bit less solid in it's grip of the smooth rod than my original. Part of the reason I stuck with my original (the rest of my reasoning is over in the 'fine tune z' thread).

I'll likely keep print them out until I can match the original prusa quality, as an easy way to improve my print quality over time.

1) Since I have not yet received my MK3, it is difficult to answer your question.
If you measure the details and get dimensions that are not even or 0.5 mm, the detail is too large or too small.

2) I strive for exact measurements and will calibrate my printer as carefully as it will go. At work they called me for my (µ = 1,000 mm) 😀 😀

3) The only part of Prusa that is incorrect is the Z-axle engine console. The other components are improvements to MK3. If you make your own details, they will probably be better than the original.

I agree, each mm or even fraction of a mm helps.

As the other guy who laid out the math in the Z axis thread pointed out it may only be a small hundredth of a percentage point of variance for the print nozzel location and have very small effect to zero effect on finished prints. And thats fine his math looked correct to me i believe his results were correct. But that doesnt mean it shouldnt be fixed.

Each time you can get a small thing fixed it all adds up and eventually after fixing enough small issues you may start to see actual results that do have an effect on prints.

Im still waiting for my printer, and will run it stock at first untill i master printing in PLA and PETG but will eventually look into ways to improve its accuracy.

If he is so kind that he posts his work I think he has the right to have his signature on the parts. To remove them is like making a Rolex copy.

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

Regarding the signature of the parts included in projects "Fine tune your MK3", I have inserted it so that the parts can not be confused with details that are not optimized.

I wondered for a long time what mark I would have, but the choice of my signature logo was better than my initials "RWH".

It is up to everyone who is disturbed by this in the appropriate program to cover the logo.

Thank you Alfred 😀

The perception might cause me to look at the E device as well. There I have found two things that should be adjusted. 😉

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

They are STL files, not STEP for those that want to import directly to 3D CAD.

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

Thanks, but I'm not sure, if some mistakes in design of printed parts are fixed now. I picked up my MK3 today (I live approx. 5 min. from PR 😎 ) and just checked that mostly of printed parts have mark of version B3 and A9 (not R1 from GitHub), so maybe some small errors in design are fixed, but overall, they looks same.

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

Is this mod compatible to the mk2/s ? Yes, I know, I have to redesign the parts with the extrusion connection (y-parts), but the z-mod (extruder holder and x-parts) is compatible ?

Can you provide stl too ?

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

Is it just me, or does this zip file only contain modified parts for the y-axis? Not seeing parts for the Z and X axes.

Here is the list of files in the zip:
Antivibration_feet.stp
Idler_Roller_Flat.stp
Info.txt
MK3_Frame.stp
MK3_Frog.stp
MK3_Front_Plate.stp
MK3_Rear_plate.stp
PSU-cover.stp
X Belt-modified.stp
Y Belt-modified.stp
Y belt-holder_modified.stp*
Y belt-idler_modified.stp*
Y-holder-front.stp
Y-holder-rear.stp

The starred files are modified printable parts.

Re: STEP files to "Fine tune your MK3"

In this ZIP file there are only STEP files that some of you have requested.
The STL files can be found under the respective "Fine tune" post (X, Y and Z).

EDIT:
Here is an updated ZIP file with more STEP files.
