Some questions while building the Y-Axis

Hey there!

It's the first time in build a 3D printer and i got just some questions while building the Y-axis. It seem's to be somehow wrong for me.
(You can click on the pictures for the full size view)

1. On this picture it looks like the frame for the heatbed is slightly offset to the left. Is this normal?

2. I'm not able to get the position of the belt right, i think. It's always way to far on the left side and touches the pulley and gear. When i loosen the gear from the motor the belt will push the gear all way to the motor (and that's bad, there need's to be some space between the gear and the motor) Is there anything i might have been done wrong?

Here just another picture as an overview:

Thanks in advance for your tips and help!!

Have you asked support? Because I'm interested to hear their response. I solved a similar issue by flipping the GT2-16 pulley around, not sure if that is the correct solution.

There are a bunch of posts here on the forum describing similar issues. Not sure what the conclusion has been.

I just wrote an e-mail to [email protected] with my questions now 😉 thanks for mentioning that!

So the problems posted in the forum have to too with the belt problem or with the offset heatbed frame? I found some pictures online where the offset seems to be the same.

You can also try the support chat.

There are all kinds of problems reported around belt alignment, on both axes, but I can't remember a specific instance where the bed frame itself is offset. Have you compared how it looks to the images in the official build manual? https://d17kynu4zpq5hy.cloudfront.net/igi/prusa3d/X2odp4dlbLBSH3ea

Didn't found the chat option. But maybe it's to early in the morning 😉

It seems to be slightly offset in this picture too, isn't it? So it seems to be normal? I would prefer if someone else could just check this on his own printer (for comparison).

Go to Prusa shop, https://shop.prusa3d.com -> click on "Ask us, we are online" in the right bottom corner.

Thanks for that hint 😀

When i enter my question and press "start chat" it just disappears. I already tried another browser ❓ maybe i type to much text into it?

I'm not home so I can't check, but I found a picture from when I built my printer. The angle is kind of wonky, but I think it has the same offset as you?

Re: Some questions while building the Y-Axis

I had a similar problem and asked a quesiton here:

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/flipped-pully-to-get-y-axis-central-is-this-ok--t13722.html#p65941

I initially thought that flipping the pulley fixed it, but I was wrong... So in the end, I made a 2mm spacer to go between the Motor mount and Motor. This pushed the Motor to the right 2mm and allowed more of the shaft on the Motor to be used to fine adjust.

Before I ever got to test it, I upgraded to RHDs Motor Mount, but this time added 2mm to the mount, to achieve the same...

Now the pulley sits further away from the motor and I have more of the shaft to make adjustments..

I hope this helps

Jon

Enable pop ups maybe?

When someone asks you if you're a god, you say, "YES!"

It's not a pop-up, right? It is in the same window.

Yes it's not a popup. I figured that it was just to much text for the little chat 😉

Thank's for the picture Zaz it's not the best angle but it looks like it is the same offset. I found different pictures with the same offset too. So maybe it is really "normal" sometimes. (i show you something from the support later relating this topic)

Did you use some washers for this? But it really don't think it should be like that :/

Here is what i got from support (short):

1. Question is the offset from the heatbed frame offset:
Answer from Support:
X: 1/ The offset of the bed is not likely but can happen
X: will depend on assembly and tolerance between parts
X: it should be no problematic when printing

So i should just ignore it i guess.

2. Question is from the rubbing belt:

X: 2/ you can correct a little bit this taking out the belt on the central plastic part
X: looks like the belt have been inserted too much inside the plastic part
>> i don't think that's the case because to make it better i need to move it further in..

Then support said i can still realign everything with the pulley, gear and the holder in the middle. And even with that i don't think i could make it better.

Overall he said to the pictures:
X: assembly looks ok for me
X: but you can recheck Y assembly to see if some screw is loose
>> i checked all screws twice while assembling so...

He said also to the belt rubbing against the gear and pulley:
X: it could be a problem if rubbing too much but you will see this later when printing
>> i should contact them later if i get any problems with the print quality because of this.

So it seems for the support it's just "normal" like it is with my build.

I hope it is allowed to post support answers here 🙄
