SD Card slot problems?

Wondering if others are experiencing a problem with the SD reader on their MK3. I found over the course of the past couple weeks that if I push the SD card in until it hits the internal stop, no SD card is detected. If I pull it back about 5-7mm, then the SD card is detected. Lately though, I've run into an issue that if I have something with quick movements during a print, the SD card will constantly switch from the card detected to "Sorting" and back to OK. Is there a known problem with the SD slot? If so, is there a known fix?

Re: SD Card slot problems?

I have the same problem although not as severe. If i push the card to the end it is not detected properly and i have to pull it back about 2mm.

During prints i think only once happened that it lost the connection but i'm not sure if it was because of the movement. This was when i was using "normal" mode and since i now always use "stealth" mode (to avoid some screeching sounds), the softer movements may have removed the problem.

Ed,
I was going to respond earlier, but I couldn't find the referenced post I was thinking of. See below for the same symptoms. Talk with Protoncek and Milad to see if they are still having problems and what code you all have.
I would like to know the ship dates of all of the affected devices to see if we can narrow down any commonalities.

I had that issue but it turned out to be my cheap SD Card once i switched to a good SD Card the problem is gone.
You should try a different sd card to rule out a out of spec / faulty sd card.

I'm using the SD card the printer shipped with, but I'm not adverse to trying another one. Thanks for the tip!

Check out the Toshiba Flashair SD V03 card with WiFi. You just send files to the card and don't remove it from the printer. Posted on this forum for setup info. Love mine!

Re: SD Card slot problems?

I'm having a similar problem. When I insert the SD card, it will show "Card Inserted"; but when I try to browse the contents it will say "No SD Card". I already tried different SD cards, card adapters, microSDCards, etc, with no luck.

I think the SDCard module must be faulty; what would be my next step?

Thanks!

I am having exactly the same problem as Iecep. Using a brand new printer/ prusa supplied card and was so close to getting my first print!

In my case, something went wrong with the EINSY board, I don't know how or why. After some troubleshooting with Prusa support team, they finally sent me a replacement.

Good luck,

Re: SD Card slot problems?

I too had the original SD card slot stop reading.

Solution? Bought two replacement boards that LOOKED similar off eBay. (Actually I bought two of them - once you bite the bullet on the wait time, why wait another two weeks for the next one. I have two Mk3's. Thought I'd be ready if the second one stopped reading)

Last week I got around to doing the swap.

Ran into a couple of issues.

First, the brightness trim pot on the original board is a little tiny thing. The same function on the eBay replacement was bigger. I had to cut a relief notch in the angled holder to allow it to fit.

Second, the notch for the ribbon cable connectors is backwards on the board connectors. On first power-up with the tongue on the plug lined up with the notch on the board - nothing. A pair of flush cutters removed the corresponding tongue on the cable connectors so they'd plug in. Second try - perfect! Not a bad fix.

SD cards read.

RE: SD Card slot problems?

Hi everyone,

I had the same issue with mine only after 3 months of owning it, here's now I fixed mine.

I was going to reference that same Thingiverse fix. Looks like decent card support.

SD slots are fragile. Make sure you apply no upward or downward pressure in inserting and removing SD cards.

Otherwise - you will bend something.

Best solution: Run OctoPrint and stop using that SD card. I have not used mine in months.

I had the same issue until Prusa sent a replacement board. I did try your part, but couldn't get it to work. Looking at the Thingiverse page now, am I correct in understanding you insert it from inside the case? That didn't register the first time (when I was frustrated).
